Full Job Description

Job Title: Surgical Research Technician

Status: Full-time
Location: Henderson, NV / Los Angeles, CA
Department: Procurement
Reports To: CAO and Procurement Manager

Job summary:

The Surgical Research Technician functions as a valued member of the Surgical Recovery Team and provides accurate, efficient, timely organ donor referral screening services and practical surgical recoveries for AnaBios’ stakeholders such as, tissue recovery agencies, client Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), and partnering research Organ/Tissue providers (IIAM,NDRI, and Promethera). The Surgical Research Technician makes independent decisions when approaching the viability of organs and tissues based on training and experience. This role requires frequent communication and collaboration with hospital staff, various OPO teams related to the case, AnaBios Procurement Manager, Chief Alliance Officer and Lab Director, as well as other AnaBios staff to determine the appropriate organ/tissue outcome. The Surgical Research Technician will provide quality customer service to all callers and will have the ability to multi-task in a frequently fast-paced environment while having a high level of attention to detail. This position directly contributes to the success of AnaBios with respect to the determining organ and tissue eligibility. The Surgical Research Technician should embody the values and attributes of AnaBios and help ensure outstanding customer service throughout the service territory.

Summary of essential job functions:

Surgically recover all appropriate organs and tissues per AnaBios SOP and/or client organization criteria while applying aseptic technique in an operating room setting.
Accurately and effectively evaluate information for preliminary donor eligibility, including relevant medical records, clinical course, medical history, and behavioral risk assessment information, as well as identify all potential organ and tissue screenings to maximize donation opportunities from referring agencies.
Follow all communication protocols to ensure effective interactions with AnaBios teammates, OPO staff, and Hospital staff.
Communicate with appropriate personnel according to established protocols with exemplary customer service.
Manage all logistics related to assigned cases – including local and national travel and transport.
Post-recovery debriefs with the Surgical Research Manager, Lab Director, and/or Chief Alliance Officer regarding case flow and tissue outcomes to continuously improve processes, implement corrective actions and support accounting and administrative handling of each case.
AOC (administrator-on-call) responsibilities when on shift in concurrence with on-site surgical recovery unless otherwise directed.
Assist in developing new recovery protocols and procedures that could maximize tissue quality and efficient surgical recoveries.
Manage relationships with guidance from the Surgical Research Manager and Chief Alliance Officer with AnaBios’ partnering organizations.
Works empathetically, compassionately, and professionally with OPOs, Hospital staff and Recovery organizations for organ donation, transplantation, and research.
Acknowledge and understand that other OPOs may be added to job duties as AnaBios grows.
As health care is around the clock, the schedule is 24hr on call shifts as cases cannot be predicted.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate degree in Allied Health, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred.
Minimum 2 years of related experience in one or more of the following areas: EMT, Hospital Corpsman, Operating Room (OR), Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) technician, or equivalent roles with a strong customer service component.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Current Driver's License.
Proven knowledge of basic-moderate human anatomy.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information professionally to diverse audiences.
Comprehensive knowledge of procedures, practices, and policies related to organ and tissue procurement.
Critical thinking skills with the ability to anticipate and solve problems independently.
Must be able to travel frequently and work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Highly Desirable Skills

Work experience in Tissue Banking, Medical Device, or Organ Procurement.
2 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
Ability to anticipate challenges and develop innovative, forward-thinking solutions through critical thinking.
