THE WILLOW DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CENTER

“Restoring the Health and Safety of Victims of Family and Domestic Violence”

LEAD COURT ADVOCATE

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

A Willow Domestic Violence Center full-time position focused on delivering court advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. Assist with navigating civil and criminal justice systems through a confidential and empowerment based approach. Maintain effective communication with community partners.

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Reports to Director of Systems Advocacy

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

SERVICE DELIVERY

A. Disseminate legal information to program participants about local civil and criminal justice systems through an empowerment based approach.

B. Assist program participants with the civil protection order process; such as, filing assistance, hearing accompaniment, and providing general information about trial procedure.

C. Provide weekly outreach at the Douglas County protection order docket.

D. Disseminate legal information to program participants about victim rights and protections; such as, the Kansas Victim Bill of Rights, Crime Victims Compensation, and various protections against housing and employment discrimination.

E. Facilitate referrals to legal resources, and accompany program participants to meetings and court hearings when appropriate.

F. Collaborate with Rural Program advocates to assist survivors in Jefferson and Franklin counties with court related needs.

G. Utilize active listening skills to provide emotional support and safety planning services to survivors with a holistic, trauma-informed approach.

TEAMWORK & COMMUNITY RELATIONS

A. Attend quarterly Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT) and Blueprint for Safety meetings, facilitated by the Systems Advocate

B. Develop and maintain respectful relationships with appropriate community partners.

C. Collaborate with team members to ensure a positive cultural environment in which communication, teamwork, empowerment, and program integrity are assured.

D. Provide direct and appropriate communication to fellow staff and community partners to ensure program participant needs are met in a timely manner.

E. Complete and maintain all program-related documentation, files, and logs in compliance with grant requirements.

F. Deliver services in a manner respectful of backgrounds and compliant with ADA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

· Bachelor’s degree in social services, public administration, or related field or equivalent experience.

· Minimum one year experience in human services and/or not-for-profit organization preferred.

· Knowledge of and sensitivity to domestic violence issues and trends.

· Knowledge of local court systems preferred.

· Knowledge of computer programs to include Word, Excel, and Google Apps.

· Experience maintaining personal/professional boundaries.

· Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

· Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.

· Manage and resolve conflict between stakeholders.

· Ability to manage stress and practice self-care constructively.

· Express commitment to the empowerment of adult and child survivors of domestic violence.

· Possess valid Kansas driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, & proof of current liability insurance.

· Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, audibly, and quickly.

· Hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

· Manual dexterity and able to use wrists, hands and/or fingers in repetitive motion.

· Prepare and/or inspect documents and communications on computer or on paper.

· Sitting for extended periods of time.

· Bending, lifting, and carrying up to 40 pounds (donations/commodities).

· Lifting from floor or from inside car, inside truck, or from trunk.

· Lifting children (infant, toddler, preschool) in to car-seats when required.

· Moving up and down stairs in shelter facility.

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
