Stewart Electrical Contracting, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Utility Division Permitting Coordinator to support our growing Utility Broadband Division.
This position will play a key role in coordinating municipal permitting, electrical utility work requests, inspections, utility activation, customer communication, and project closeout. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing multiple active projects, communicating with municipal officials and utility representatives, reviewing field conditions, and preparing clear scopes, sketches, and supporting documentation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare, submit, and track municipal permit applications.
- Apply for electrical utility work requests with local power companies and monitor each request through completion.
- Coordinate and attend meetings with power company design engineers when required.
- Prepare installation details, sketches, and supporting project documentation.
- Write clear and detailed scopes of work for utility and broadband-related projects.
- Perform pre-construction site visits and ride-outs to confirm existing field conditions.
- Identify potential access, permitting, utility, or constructability concerns before work begins.
- Coordinate final inspections with municipal wiring inspectors.
- Confirm that completed inspections are properly released to the applicable power company.
- Follow up with power company representatives to ensure approved locations are scheduled for activation.
- Coordinate with customers and project stakeholders to confirm when locations have been energized.
- Prepare and complete project closeout packages, records, photographs, permits, inspection documentation, and required paperwork.
- Maintain accurate project logs and provide regular status updates to the Utility Division Manager.
- Assist the Utility Division Manager with scheduling, documentation, coordination, and other duties as assigned.
- Provide occasional permitting and inspection support to the company’s Elevator Division.
- Communicate professionally with customers, municipal departments, inspectors, engineers, utility representatives, field personnel, and internal project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with municipal permitting, utility coordination, electrical construction, broadband construction, or project administration.
- Familiarity with electric utility work-request processes and power company terminology.
- Ability to read and interpret basic electrical drawings, site plans, utility sketches, and installation details.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare scopes of work and professional correspondence.
- Strong organizational and follow-through skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, inspections, and utility applications simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PDF-based document-management tools.
- Comfortable performing field visits and documenting existing site conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to project locations throughout the region.
- Prior experience working with municipal wiring inspectors, utility design engineers, or permitting departments is strongly preferred.
