Join a Patient-focused Team

Lone Star Vision Group is seeking a dependable, professional, and patient-focused Optometric Technician to support our optometrists and help create an efficient, welcoming experience for every patient.

In this role, you will guide patients through multiple stages of their visit, including check-in, pretesting, clinical support, documentation, insurance assistance, and checkout. You will work closely with our optometrists, Office Manager, and other team members to maintain smooth patient flow and accurate daily operations.

This position is a strong fit for someone who communicates clearly, learns quickly, pays close attention to detail, and remains friendly and composed in a busy clinical environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Patient Care and Clinical Support

Welcome patients and provide friendly, professional assistance throughout their visit
Prepare patients for examinations and explain pretesting procedures
Perform routine pretesting and operate optometric or diagnostic equipment as trained
Prepare, organize, and reset examination rooms
Clean and disinfect equipment in accordance with clinic procedures
Support the optometrist during the patient-care process as needed
Assist with contact lens trial orders and related patient instructions

Scheduling and Front-Office Support

Answer incoming calls and assist patients with scheduling and general questions
Schedule, confirm, and update patient appointments
Accurately enter and maintain patient demographic information
Direct clinical, billing, or patient concerns to the appropriate team member
Help maintain an organized and positive reception and patient-care environment

Insurance, Documentation, and Checkout

Assist with insurance eligibility and benefit verification
Communicate clearly with patients regarding applicable charges and office procedures
Collect patient payments and accurately document charges
Complete checkout procedures and assist with end-of-day fee documentation
Scan, fax, email, and organize patient records and other documents as assigned
Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient information

Team and Office Operations

Work closely with the Office Manager, optometrists, and clinical team to maintain efficient patient flow
Complete opening, closing, and end-of-day responsibilities as assigned
Follow clinic policies, procedures, and professional standards
Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and applicable practice requirements
Help identify and resolve patient concerns promptly and professionally
Support coworkers and contribute to a respectful, dependable team environment

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
Professional and compassionate approach to patient care
Ability to learn and operate clinical equipment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, or similar programs
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
Dependable attendance and punctuality
Ability to work Monday-Saturday flexible schedule
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of patient and business information

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as an Optometric Technician, Ophthalmic Technician, Medical Assistant, or similar patient-care professional
Experience working in an optometry, ophthalmology, medical, dental, or other healthcare office
Experience with patient pretesting or diagnostic equipment
Experience with insurance verification and patient eligibility
Experience with appointment scheduling, patient records, and medical-office checkout
Contact lens experience
Familiarity with electronic health records or practice-management software

Direct optometry experience is preferred but is not required for an otherwise qualified candidate who has strong customer service skills, clinical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
