Full Job Description

Supports the implementation of the high-risk assessment tool in the Kansas City, KS area while keeping the experiences of survivors visible and central throughout the process. The Advocate will work with the KCK Project Team to strengthen coordinated community response and aid community partners in that process by developing strong community collaborations to enhance victim safety and promote offender accountability. They are responsible for providing survivor centered, accessible, trauma informed, and culturally competent advocacy to survivors referred through the high-risk assessment protocol. This position will support the mission and values of the agency and collaborate across programs within Friends of Yates as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as within systems outside the agency. This position completes data entry and performs related quality control and assurance.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

· Guide a multi-disciplinary approach and response to implementation, coordination, management, and utilization of LAP in the service area.

· Collaborate with KCKPD LAP Coordinator to schedule and prepare meetings for Project and High-Risk Teams.

· Facilitate Project team meetings, which includes but is not limited to scheduling meetings, creating a meeting agenda, leading the team to establish and implement goals, and distributing minutes.

· Provide immediate support to high-risk victim/survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault.

· Provide advocacy services including safety planning, crisis intervention, assistance filing for victim compensation benefits, and providing information on how to access appropriate internal and external resources.

· Provide domestic violence education to help victims identify power and control strategies, lethality/risk factors, and impact of domestic violence.

· Create a positive first impression upon a client’s entry into shelter by being responsive to their needs and taking steps to engage the client to reduce the immediate stresses experienced by new residents.

· Provide data control and documentation of performance measures and outcomes in accordance with agency and grant reporting requirements.

· Ensure collection of data required to report on performance measures, outcomes, and systems advocacy achievements.

· Oversee the collection, compilation, and data entry of statistical information needed for program records, progress reports, and other grant reporting.

· Keep up to date on new research and best practices related to lethality assessment and coordinated community response.

· Collaborate with KCK High Risk Team members to schedule activities related to case analysis, observations, and interviews for information gathering.

· Comply with all agency policies and safety procedures. Document shelter happenings and client activities as necessary.

· Oversee shelter environment and activities, facilitate problem solving for in-house conflicts and crises, encourage and model appropriate shelter interactions.

· Provide appropriate follow-up and documentation of emergency incidents.

· Participate in staff meetings, case conferences and other meetings as needed.

· Provide any and all shelter support as directed by Supervisor Program Director, Executive Director or Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications:

· A bachelor’s degree in human services or related field or equivalent work experience and training preferred.

· Must work well with persons of varied sexual preference, racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently abled.

· Awareness of relationship violence, child abuse, stalking, and sexual abuse and assault preferred.

· Knowledge of counseling and advocacy techniques for people who have been victims of domestic violence, including crisis intervention and case management skills beneficial.

· Previous employment or volunteer work in human services, community agencies or other related nonprofit or social change organizations a plus.

· Good oral and written communication and computer skills are required.

· Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaker preferred but not required.

· Position requires the ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends and on-call scheduling.
