Full Job Description

Position Summary

Dispenses prescription medications in high volume pharmacy.

Job Duties/Essential Functions

● Dispenses prescription medications, measures and counts medication into appropriate container.

● Labels prescriptions and applies appropriate warning stickers.

● Verifies prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone. Selects substitutions when necessary.

● Obtains patient medical history and maintains confidential computer record.

● Checks prescriptions and over the counter medications for drug interactions.

● Counsels customers on proper medication usage. Provides prompt and courteous customer service. Answers customer questions about over-the-counter medication and product location. Addresses other customer concerns including insurance issues. Preserves customer confidentiality.

● Assists in perpetual inventory of Schedule II to V controlled substances. Participates in twice yearly inventory of Department 92 and 93. Meets proper department production, record keeping, and product storage procedures and standards. Follows safety and security procedures.

● Assists with counter duties as necessary.

● Executes proper Central Fill and DUR functions.

● Delivers immunizations.

● Approves and submits orders for equipment and supplies. Orders product using computer system. Coordinates proper maintenance and repairs for machinery and equipment.

● May be required to act as Pharmacist-in-Charge during part of shift, when Pharmacy Manager is not present: Acts as point of contact for regulatory, legal, third party insurance companies, and audit situations; monitors pharmacy to ensure complete legal compliance; supervises Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants.

● Ensures proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials.

● Regular and reliable workplace attendance at your assigned location.

Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery

● Computer, phone, fax, copier/printer, computerized order/inventory system, cash register, hand-held scanner, mortar and pestle.

Non-Essential Functions

● Assists with front end duties as necessary.

● Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary.

Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery

● Cash register, tabletop/hand-held scanners, carts, and flatbeds.

Experience, Skills, Education & Licenses/Certifications

Required:

● Licensed Pharmacist in good standing, Immunization Certification.

● Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy.

● Hazard Communication and JHA (initial assignment), Professionals HIPAA Training (within 30 days), Costco Hazardous Materials DOT Training Course: Part 1 (within 30 days and then every year), Hazmat Universal Waste Training- Short Version (within 30 days and then every year), Option STOP Training (within 30 days), MethGuard (within 30 days).

● Internship training required.

● Must be current on annual safety training within 30 days of hire.

Recommended:

● Computer, math, and customer service skills preferred.

Other Conditions

● Management will review the Job Analysis for this position prior to a job offer.

● Hazardous Waste Duties as defined in the Costco Pharmacy Unsaleable Product - Hazardous Waste Protocol. Ensures proper cleanup, storage and management of hazardous materials taken in as returns or accidentally spilled. Also responsible for managing expired un-salable pharmaceuticals as per protocol referenced.
