*Seeking Certified Surgical Technologist for busy orthopedic group- 40 plus hours per week.*
Position Summary – The certified surgical technologist assists the surgeon by providing and controlling the sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment required during surgical procedures in hospital and ambulatory surgery center operating rooms. This position assists in a wide variety of procedures and has knowledge and skills to adapt to changes in the patient’s condition. The certified surgical technologist works under the direct supervision of the orthopedic surgeon in both the clinic and operating room settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists surgeon(s) during procedure according to prescribed standards
- Anticipate surgeon(s) and patient needs during a procedure.
- Prepare and organize the operating room equipment, instruments, and supplies as required for various surgical procedures.
- Maintain a sterile field during surgical procedure through consistent application of aseptic technique.
- Take care of specimens, prepare, check, and monitor medications, and assist with dressings.
- Assist in application of dressings, casts, and moving patients, as directed
- Communicate with vendor representatives to order instruments for upcoming surgeries.
- Attend educational seminars/in-service opportunities regarding new implants, equipment, etc.
- Provide after hours call coverage with physicians during the week and on weekends on a rotating basis
- Update patients’ chart with relevant and current information regarding their past and current health condition.
- Communicate with patients about post–op recovery process and inform the physician of any concerns of complaints regarding treatment progress.
- Assist in dressing changes, suture removal, DME management and proper fitting
- Any other job duties that might be requested by the doctors or management to help the operating room and clinic run efficiently

Typical Physical Demands – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking for varied amounts of time. Must travel between surgical site locations on as needed basis. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects (sterile trays). Pushing and pulling 125 pounds. Utilize correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables to prevent injury to patient and personnel. Occasional stress from daily workload.

Work Hours – This is an hourly full-time position, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week; hours may vary.
Education – Graduate of a training program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Work Experience – Minimum 1-2 years of operating room experience; orthopaedic procedures preferred.
Certification - Current and active surgical technologist certification required. Current American Heart Association BLS certification required. Must meet credentialing requirements for allied health professional privileges at facilities as appropriate.
