Culinary Manager

Royal Plaza Health and Rehab of Cascadia

Position Summary:

Royal Plaza Health and Rehab of Cascadia is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and service-oriented Culinary Manager to lead our Dietary Services Department. The Culinary Manager is responsible for overseeing all food service operations, ensuring residents receive nutritious, appealing meals while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, local, and company regulations. This role combines leadership, culinary expertise, regulatory compliance, and resident-centered service to create an exceptional dining experience for our residents.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management

Lead, mentor, schedule, and supervise dietary staff.
Recruit, train, and develop team members to maintain a high-performing department.
Foster a positive work environment built on teamwork, accountability, and resident satisfaction.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and support.

Food Service Operations

Oversee daily meal preparation, service, and sanitation activities.
Ensure meals are prepared according to physician orders, therapeutic diets, and resident preferences.
Monitor food quality, taste, presentation, and portion control.
Ensure meal service is timely, efficient, and resident-focused.

Regulatory Compliance

Maintain compliance with CMS, state, local health department, and company standards.
Ensure adherence to food safety regulations, infection control practices, and sanitation procedures.
Maintain required documentation and records for inspections and surveys.
Participate in survey preparation and corrective action planning when necessary.

Resident Experience

Collaborate with residents, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to address dietary needs and preferences.
Conduct resident satisfaction rounds and implement improvements based on feedback.
Support a culture that prioritizes dignity, choice, and quality of life for residents.

Budget & Inventory Management

Manage departmental budgets and food costs effectively.
Oversee purchasing, inventory control, and vendor relationships.
Minimize waste while maintaining high-quality food service standards.
Ensure adequate supplies are available to support daily operations.

Quality Assurance

Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
Monitor department performance metrics and implement continuous improvement strategies.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures that support operational excellence.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) preferred.
Food Protection Manager Certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.
Minimum of 2 years of dietary leadership experience preferred.
Experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, healthcare, or hospitality food service strongly preferred.
Knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition principles.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with computer systems and dietary management software preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to work in kitchen environments with varying temperatures.
