Full Job Description

Procedural Sedation & Authorization Coordinator

Atlas Pain & Spine is one of the fastest-growing interventional pain management practices in Central and Southeastern Kentucky. We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in a unique full-time hybrid role (32–40 hours/week) that combines procedural sedation with insurance authorizations.

This position is ideal for an RN who enjoys direct patient care but is also interested in the coordination and planning that helps patients receive timely treatment. Approximately 2–3 days each week will be spent providing IV procedural sedation, while the remaining time will focus on obtaining insurance authorizations for the same procedures performed by our physicians.

Because you'll work alongside our physicians and procedural team in both capacities, you'll develop a thorough understanding of the procedures you're helping authorize—making this a meaningful extension of your clinical role rather than simply administrative work.

Our supervising physicians are board-certified Anesthesiologists with fellowship training in Interventional Pain Management, providing an outstanding collaborative environment for professional growth.

Clinical Responsibilities

Administer and monitor IV procedural sedation for outpatient interventional pain procedures
Monitor patient vital signs before, during, and after procedures
Prepare patients for procedures while providing education and reassurance
Assist physicians during procedures as needed
Turn over procedure rooms efficiently between cases
Document patient care accurately and maintain patient safety throughout the procedural experience

Authorization Responsibilities

Review insurance benefits and verify coverage for scheduled procedures
Obtain prior authorizations from insurance carriers
Coordinate with physicians, clinical staff, scheduling, and billing teams to ensure timely approvals
Resolve authorization denials and obtain additional clinical documentation when needed
Maintain accurate authorization records
Stay current with payer guidelines and authorization requirements

Qualifications

Current RN license required
ACLS certification required
BLS certification required
Experience with procedural sedation or critical care preferred
Prior authorization experience preferred but not required. We are happy to train the right candidate.
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced outpatient environment
Positive attitude and commitment to exceptional patient care
