Job Summary

The Revenue Cycle Analyst is responsible for accurate and timely laboratory claims processing while leading key revenue-cycle improvement projects. This role manages daily billing operations—including eligibility verification, claim submission, denial resolution, and patient payment plans—and drives high-impact initiatives. The successful candidate will combine strong technical billing knowledge with a process-improvement mindset to accelerate collections, reduce days in A/R, and support the laboratory’s financial performance.

Core Job Duties

Daily Billing & Claims Operations

Ensure compliance with current payer policies and guidelines, Fiscal Intermediary directives, and Local Coverage Determinations.
Build and maintain codes in the billing/LIS systems.
Verify eligibility and benefits prior to claim submission.
Obtain pre-authorizations as required.
Review claims for completeness and accuracy before transmission.
Follow up on unpaid claims within standard cycle timeframes.
Analyze insurance payments; verify contractual adjustments and identify underpayments.
Research, appeal, and resolve denied or rejected claims.
Respond to patient and payer inquiries related to assigned accounts.
Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient and financial information.

Project & Process Improvement Responsibilities

Drive conversion of all payer payments to Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).
Enroll remaining payers in EFT/ERA; track enrollment status and resolve barriers.
Update billing system and bank records to accept and correctly post electronic payments.
Eliminate paper checks and manual posting wherever possible.
Monitor EFT adoption rate and report progress weekly until full conversion is achieved.
Convert all remittance, correspondence, and check mailing addresses to the designated company PO Box.
Update payer portals, clearinghouse profiles, and patient statements with the new PO Box address.
Coordinate with bank and lockbox services to ensure seamless redirection of any residual paper payments.
Audit systems and documents to confirm the PO Box is the sole active remittance address.
Maintain a master tracker of all active payer contracts and revalidation due dates.
Gather and submit required revalidation documentation (ownership disclosures, W-9s, licenses, CLIA, etc.) before deadlines.
Follow up with payers on pending revalidations and escalate stalled applications.
Update credentialing and billing systems with new effective dates and any changes in payer requirements.
Ensure no claims are delayed or denied due to lapsed revalidation status.
Maintain current expected payment amounts, contractual rates, and payment timing data in the billing system for every major payer.
Update fee schedules and expected reimbursement tables whenever contracts change or new rates are published.
Flag and investigate payments that fall outside expected ranges.
Provide leadership with accurate projected cash collections based on current expected-payment data.
Perform regular audits of the revenue cycle (claim submission → payment posting → denial management → patient collections).
Identify root causes of delayed payments, high denial rates, or underpayments.
Recommend and implement process changes that accelerate cash collections and reduce days in A/R.
Track key metrics (clean claim rate, denial rate, average days to payment, EFT percentage) and report progress.
Support leadership in prioritizing high-impact cash-flow opportunities.
Establish, update, and manage patient payment plans according to current company policy.
Monitor payment-plan compliance and escalate delinquent accounts appropriately.
Work collection accounts while maintaining professional patient communication.
Recommend policy updates that improve both patient experience and collection rates.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, and managed-care billing requirements.
Hands-on experience with EFT/ERA enrollment and electronic payment conversion.
Familiarity with payer revalidation and credentialing processes.
Ability to audit revenue-cycle processes and drive measurable cash-flow improvements.
Competent use of billing software, clearinghouses, payer portals, and Microsoft Office.
Clear, professional communication with payers, patients, and internal teams.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting daily production targets.
Problem-solving mindset focused on reducing denials, accelerating payments, and improving process efficiency.
Knowledge of medical terminology commonly used in laboratory claims.
Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail under volume and deadline pressure.

Education & Experience

Prior experience in laboratory or specialty billing strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience with accounting, book keeping, electronic payment conversion, payer revalidation, or revenue-cycle process improvement is highly desirable.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
