The Real Job: As a Raker/Ground Crew Member, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper installation of rock and asphalt materials. This includes building takeoff mats, raking joints, fixing mat defects and placing/raking material in areas the paver cannot reach.
Organization: Operator is part of the Field Operations team for APM Paving. They report directly to the Paving Foreman.
Things You Will Do (Essential Functions):
- Safely operate skid steers, rollers and other equipment per standard operating procedures.
- Capable of skilled raking and hand work with asphalt as needed.
- Properly excavate, grade, install rock and asphalt materials with skid steer, excavator, paver, roller, rake, and plate compactor.
- Lead and manage small projects such as pot hole patching and repairs.
- Look up, look back and look forward - In any paving task, monitor mat and joint appearance to ensure smoothness and evenness standards are met.
- As needed, in a timely manner, using a plate compactor or other manual technique, properly compact the inside corners and curb lines to achieve smooth matched appearance to the paving mat.
- Look up, look back and look forward - Call out defective/areas of concern to Paving Foreman for immediate remediation.

- Be flexible - The only thing that stays the same is that things will always change. You need to be adaptable and have the ability to handle conflicting priorities and more importantly maintain a positive attitude and work ethic even under pressure.
- Be a problem solver - You need to be able to assess issues as they arise and come to the table with viable solutions that keep the process moving forward and equipment in good working condition. Communicate and discuss various viable solutions with your supervisor as soon as you see the issue.

Ideal Knowledge:
The Operator should have knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the removal and placement of rock and asphalt materials and how to correctly roll each specific type of joint. Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Experience operating pavers, skid steers and rollers.
- Dedicated to working and operating equipment safely.
- Dedicated to maintaining a clean work environment.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Perform daily equipment, maintenance and project checklists as they pertain to the completion of a project.
- Withstand working outside, on uneven ground for long periods of time in different weather conditions.
- Be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, and crouch for long periods of time.

- Flexibility: you need to be adaptable and have the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
