Job Description
The Systems Engineer performs end-to-end technical planning and execution across the full systems engineering lifecycle. This role focuses on system integration, verification and validation, and cost and risk analysis to ensure complex systems are supportable, effective, and aligned with customer requirements and program constraints. The engineer translates customer and product requirements into comprehensive hardware and software solutions through rigorous analysis and documentation at every stage of the system’s life, from concept through disposal.
Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in systems engineering or a closely related field.

Demonstrated experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements writing, verification, and validation.

Strong experience in system integration for complex hardware and software systems.

Ability to perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, and detailed trade studies.

Experience translating customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Proficiency in requirements allocation and interface definition between system components.

Understanding of cost and risk analysis as applied to technical solutions and system designs.

Experience performing supportability and effectiveness analyses for system products.

Ability to work with and manage requirements using established systems engineering processes and tools.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies.

Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS.

Experience with modeling tools such as Cameo.

Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid work environment based in Lexington, with three days on-site and two days remote each week. On-site work typically takes place in an office and engineering setting that supports collaboration, access to systems engineering tools, and interaction with cross-functional teams. Remote days provide flexibility for focused analysis, documentation, and model-based systems engineering activities while maintaining close communication with the project team.
Responsibilities

Perform technical planning for total systems, including defining system concepts, architectures, and integration strategies.

Conduct system integration activities to ensure hardware and software components function together as an effective, cohesive system.

Execute verification and validation activities to confirm that systems meet all specified requirements and perform as intended.

Perform cost and risk analyses to evaluate technical solutions and recommend approaches that balance performance, schedule, and budget constraints.

Conduct supportability and effectiveness analyses to ensure systems are maintainable, reliable, and operationally suitable throughout their lifecycle.

Analyze systems at all levels of the product lifecycle, including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.

Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into complete system solutions that consider technical, schedule, and cost factors.

Perform functional analysis to decompose system-level requirements into lower-level functional and performance requirements.

Conduct timeline analysis and detailed trade studies to compare design alternatives and select optimal solutions.

Allocate requirements to hardware and software components and define clear interfaces between subsystems.

Translate customer requirements into precise hardware and software specifications using systems engineering best practices.

Develop, write, and maintain system requirements and associated documentation throughout the systems engineering lifecycle.

Apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methods and tools to represent, analyze, and manage system architectures and requirements.

Use tools such as DOORS and Cameo to manage requirements, traceability, and system models.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate system design, integration, test, and validation activities.

Support project planning and execution, including providing technical input to schedules, milestones, and risk management activities.

Contribute to or lead project activities, providing technical leadership and guidance to ensure successful delivery of system solutions.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $69.00/hr.
