MIT Lincoln Laboratory Fitness Center is a professionally managed facility serving the MIT Lincoln Laboratory community in Lexington, MA. The center offers a range of fitness equipment, programs, and services designed to support health, wellness, and work–life balance for members. Staff focus on creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for individuals of all fitness levels.

Position Overview

The Front Desk Associate is a per diem, on-site position located at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Fitness Center in Lexington, MA. Serving as the primary point of contact for members, guests, and visitors, this role is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment while supporting daily facility operations. The ideal candidate is friendly, organized, dependable, and able to effectively manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Supervise the fitness facility; interact with members, monitor equipment usage and participant safety within the DAPER Lincoln Laboratory Fitness Center.
Support daily fitness center operations, including membership processing, onboarding, equipment orientations, and towel service.
Enforce facility policies and procedures to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
Welcome and assist members, guests, and visitors in a friendly, professional, and service-oriented manner.
Process member and guest check-ins, verify membership status, and provide information regarding programs, services, schedules, and facility policies.
Answer and direct incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and relay messages accurately and promptly.
Provide tours and information sessions for prospective members and participants.
Address member questions, concerns, and feedback in a professional and timely manner, escalating issues as appropriate.
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the reception area and assist with routine cleaning of fitness equipment throughout the facility.
Support towel service operations, including washing, drying, folding, and restocking towels.
Receive, organize, and distribute mail, packages, and deliveries.
Maintain membership records, file administrative documents, and monitor office and cleaning supply inventories.
Assist with additional operational, administrative, and customer service duties as assigned to support overall fitness center operations.

Qualifications & Skills:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

High school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of one year of front-line customer service experience
A working knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
Proficiency with basic computer applications.
Ability to work independently, strong interpersonal and communication skills.
CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

PREFERRED: 2+ years of front-line customer service experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to perform light cleaning, stocking, and organizational tasks throughout the facility.

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
