Dawson County Extension – Office Assistant

County Application: The County Application can be found on the Dawson County website. Once on the home page, navigate to Forms, Dawson County Job Information, and then click Dawson County Application.

Please submit all necessary documents to be considered for this position. The application will close on Friday, September 11th.

OFFICE Manager

1. Mail Carrier

Pick up, open, sort, distribute incoming mail
Deliver outgoing mail daily
Keep posted on USPS changes & regulations
Prepare and mail important forms

2. Receptionist

Answer telephone, direct calls to appropriate person
Greet customers

3. Secretary

Receive and record payments and write receipts
Prepare and submit bills for payment to UNL
Type personal letters, brochures and flyers, educator reports, news releases, columns
Account for workshop participant registration and fees
Photocopying
Maintain bulletin rack
Check pressure canner gauges
Prepare and revise annual Extension office equipment inventory for county clerk’s office
Inventory, research and order office supplies
Scheduling Ag Society meeting room
Website Administrator
Maintain mailing address & lists in computer database software
Maintain & distribute generic Dawson County e-mails received and forward to appropriate people in
office or reply to them

4. 4-H Support Person

Receive 4-H enrollments in statewide enrollment program
Inventory, order and file all 4-H materials
County fair preparation and follow up
Review and edit 4H premium book
Support office staff during County Fair season with data management, program support, entering results, writing press releases, and other duties as assigned
4-H Achievement Barbecue preparation & assist with photos

County Fair preparation:

Superintendent books
Backtags/nametags
Armbands
Showmanship lists
Show orders
Thank you labels
Check in sheets
Showmanship Trophy, Grand and Reserve trophies verification and labeling
Work with Fair Superintendents on check-in day to create show line-up schedules and programs for animal shows

5. Extension Board Support Person

Prepare monthly narratives, board minutes and agenda for emailing before meeting date
Prepare tax, UNL and Foundation account reports for meeting
Type meeting minutes from secretary’s notes
Prepare and submit claims for payroll and expenses to county clerk

6. Custodial

Empty trash, vacuum, etc. when necessary, during absence of regular custodial staff

Salary and Benefits:

Position is funded through Dawson County with the office located in Lexington, NE. The salary is based on county salary classifications with the Dawson County benefit package available. The position is $17.40/hr.
