Liberal Public Schools is seeking an organized, dependable, and student-centered leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Athletics & Activities. This position supports the Director in coordinating athletic programs, student activities, facilities, transportation, events, compliance, budgets, communication, and daily department operations.
The Assistant Director also provides leadership and support to coaches, activity sponsors, and students to promote participation, character, sportsmanship, school pride, and positive extracurricular experiences.

Assist with the daily operation of district athletic programs, student activities, clubs, performances, and special events.

Coordinate schedules, transportation, facilities, officials, event workers, security, and game-day personnel.

Assist with home contests, tournaments, Homecoming, assemblies, recognition programs, performances, and schoolwide events.

Supervise assigned varsity, junior varsity, freshman, and middle school contests and activities.

Support coaches and sponsors with scheduling, travel, purchasing, equipment, communication, and event logistics.

Maintain accurate calendars, eligibility records, reports, budgets, inventories, and compliance documentation.

Assist with KSHSAA requirements, district procedures, emergency planning, crowd management, and facility closing.

Promote sportsmanship, appropriate spectator behavior, and a safe and positive event environment.

Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and supervising activity and club sponsors.

Mentor sponsors and provide ongoing coaching, resources, and professional development.

Conduct pre-season and post-season meetings with head sponsors to review expectations, goals, and support needs.

Hold regular individual check-ins with sponsors to monitor progress and address concerns.

Facilitate quarterly advisory sessions with sponsors to establish goals and gather feedback and ideas.

Attend activity meetings, practices, performances, and events to provide support and evaluate program needs.

Provide character-development resources and training for sponsors and participating students.

Build positive relationships with students participating in athletics, clubs, and activities.

Assist with quarterly student advisory sessions to set goals and gather feedback regarding extracurricular programs.

Help mediate student, parent, coach, or sponsor concerns in a professional and timely manner.

Work with the extracurricular team to increase student participation in athletics, activities, clubs, and organizations.

Support district efforts to provide every student with access to at least one meaningful extracurricular opportunity.

Promote leadership, belonging, character, academic success, and positive student experiences.

Support the Director of Athletics & Activities in carrying out department goals, procedures, and strategic priorities.

Assist with coach and sponsor supervision, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development.

Monitor assigned budgets, purchases, activity fees, equipment, and program expenditures.

Maintain accurate information on district websites, calendars, scheduling systems, and communication platforms.

Communicate professionally with students, families, staff, officials, visiting schools, and community partners.

Respond appropriately to conflicts, emergencies, schedule changes, and unexpected situations.

Represent the department at meetings, contests, activities, and community events as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Successful experience in education, athletics, activities, coaching, administration, event management, or a related field.

Strong leadership, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to supervise and support coaches, sponsors, students, and event personnel.

Ability to manage multiple schedules, events, deadlines, and responsibilities.

Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, scheduling platforms, websites, and digital communication tools.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Valid driver’s license and ability to meet district transportation requirements.

Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and occasional overnight travel.

Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Athletic Administration, Sports Management, Education, or a related field.

Kansas teaching, administrative, or leadership license.
-
Previous experience as an athletic administrator, activities director, coach, sponsor, or school administrator.

Knowledge of KSHSAA regulations, eligibility standards, and event procedures.

Experience supervising staff, sponsors, coaches, or student organizations.

CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

Registered Athletic Administrator, Certified Athletic Administrator, or willingness to pursue certification through the NIAAA.

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs, and move throughout district facilities and event venues.

Ability to remain standing or walking for extended periods during contests and activities.

Ability to occasionally lift or move equipment and event materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work is performed in offices, schools, athletic facilities, auditoriums, outdoor venues, and community locations.

Frequent evening, weekend, holiday, and occasional overnight assignments are required.
