SUMMARY: The Auto Body Technician is responsible for performing high-quality collision repairs, including restoring damaged vehicle panels, structural components, and exterior surfaces to manufacturer standards. This role involves metal finishing, panel replacement, filler work, welding, and precise alignment prior to paint. The technician follows detailed repair plans, collaborates closely with the estimator and repair team, and maintains a clean, safe, and efficient workspace. The Auto Body Technician plays a key role in delivering safe, accurate, and visually excellent repairs that meet shop and OEM quality expectations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair collision damage including dents, body panels, and structural components
- Perform sanding, grinding, metal finishing, and body filler application
- Replace damaged panels, bumpers, fenders, and related components
- Align panels, doors, and body lines prior to paint
- Perform welding and minor fabrication as needed
- Review repair plans and follow estimator notes accurately
- Work collaboratively with painters, mechanics, and frame technicians
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace while meeting shop quality standards
QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
2–4 years of experience in auto body repair or collision repair.
Strong understanding of metal repair, body panel replacement, and structural repair techniques.
Ability to use body shop tools including sanders, grinders, welders, and measuring systems.
Familiarity with repair plans, OEM procedures, and industry safety guidelines.
Ability to perform welding (MIG required; other certifications preferred).
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred
ASE or I-CAR certifications (Body Repair, Welding, Structural Repair, etc.).
Experience with both steel and aluminum repairs.
Familiarity with frame measurement systems or computerized repair planning tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the individual is to remain in a stationary position for 60 percent of the time while operating the machine on the shop floor. They constantly operate motorized equipment and machines. The individual needs to occasionally move about on the shop floor to transport parts, access tools, equipment, parts, and other necessary items to complete the work order. The individual frequently positions self to operate and repair machines, including underneath and above the machine. Most of the activities involve fine and gross manipulation of items. They must be able to exchange accurate information with other individuals in the office and shop. Must be able to detect mechanical issues and part defects from short distances to determine what action needs to be taken. They must regularly push, pull, and/or move up to 60 pounds. The individual must be capable of transporting different parts and tools required to do the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Due to exposure of machinery and electrical currents, employees are required to wear personal protective equipment. During warmer months, the required personal protective equipment may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment.
