Temple Isaiah of Lexington is seeking a dependable, experienced, and detail-oriented Senior Custodian / Facilities Support Specialist to join our facilities team. This is a full-time position with a regular schedule of Monday through Friday, approximately 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with some flexibility depending on building needs and scheduled events.
This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning building, while also being comfortable with communication, follow-through, light troubleshooting, event support, and coordination with other custodial staff.
Position Summary
The Senior Custodian / Facilities Support Specialist will be responsible for daily custodial duties, evening building coverage, event setup and breakdown, and supporting the overall operation of the synagogue facility. In addition to routine cleaning and maintenance responsibilities, this position requires strong communication skills, excellent follow-through, and the ability to help ensure that tasks are completed accurately and consistently.
The right candidate will be reliable, organized, proactive, and able to work independently while also helping guide and support other custodial team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine custodial duties, including cleaning classrooms, offices, restrooms, kitchens, meeting spaces, hallways, sanctuary areas, and common areas.
- Set up and break down rooms for meetings, programs, services, school activities, and special events.
- Ensure that room setups are completed accurately according to instructions, diagrams, or event notes.
- Monitor the building during evening hours and respond to facility needs as they arise.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks and basic troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot simple mechanical or building issues when possible and report larger concerns promptly.
- Support basic audio/visual needs, including microphones, speakers, presentation equipment, Zoom meeting setups, and restarting equipment when needed.
- Communicate clearly by email, text, or phone regarding building needs, completed work, supplies, and follow-up items.
- Help order, organize, and track custodial and facility supplies.
- Confirm that scheduled services and routine tasks have been completed properly.
- Work with other custodians to help ensure duties are completed accurately, consistently, and on schedule.
- Help maintain quality control by checking work areas and following up on assigned tasks.
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and helpful presence with staff, congregants, vendors, and visitors.
- Secure the building as needed, including checking doors, lights, alarms, and assigned areas.
- Plan and participant in annual cleaning: stripe and seal floors, paint rooms and thoroughly clean rooms.
Qualifications
- Prior custodial, maintenance, facilities, school, religious institution, hospitality, or building operations experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work.
- Excellent follow-through and ability to complete tasks accurately.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Good communication skills, including the ability to respond to emails, texts, and verbal requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Comfort with basic audio/visual equipment, Zoom setups, microphones, speakers, and simple technology troubleshooting preferred.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions, schedules, room setup notes, and checklists.
- Ability to respectfully coordinate with and support other custodial staff.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Local candidates preferred, ideally within approximately 40 minutes of Lexington, MA.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, carry, push, and pull during the work shift.
- Ability to move tables, chairs, supplies, and equipment as needed.
- Ability to lift moderate weight as required for custodial and setup duties.
- Ability to work throughout a multi-use building, including classrooms, offices, event spaces, kitchens, and worship spaces.

- Some flexibility may be required based on building schedule, holidays, programs, or special events.
