Full Job Description

Overview

General Surgery Associates is looking for an experienced medical receptionist. We are seeking a professional, friendly, and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors. The ideal candidate will create a welcoming environment, deliver exceptional customer service, manage phone communications, and support clinic operations with accuracy and a positive attitude. Primary duties include answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking patients in, data entry and collecting co-pays.

This is an evolving position with opportunity for expanded responsibilities. The ideal applicant must be adaptable, willing to learn, and interested in growing within the role as additional duties in medical records management and prior authorizations develop over time.

Must be friendly, efficient, reliable and team-oriented.

Qualifications

Previous receptionist, medical office, or customer service experience preferred.
Strong communication and phone etiquette skills.
Ability to multi-task with excellent attention to detail.
Experience with EMR systems preferred (Athena experience a plus).
Demonstrated initiative and willingness to grow professionally.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.

No nights; no weekend and no holidays.

Duties

Answers incoming telephone calls, determines purpose of callers, and forwards calls to appropriate personnel, when required.
Schedules patient appointments.
Schedules follow up/post op appointments per mid-level and physician message.
Follow up on referrals daily.
Inputs hospital demographics into the EMR and checks hospital census daily.
Validates and updates insurance information and pertinent patient demographic information.
Verifies eligibility of insurance package and validity of authorization for visits prior to patient admission.
Ensures complete, efficient registration of each patient that presents to the clinic for visit.
Creates new patient accounts in EMR system.
Takes payments for services, reconciles daily.
Evaluates EMR inboxes routinely throughout the day, ensuring timely review and precise filing of incoming patient medical records into the correct electronic charts.
Demonstrates exceptional customer service by professionally and respectfully greeting patients.
