RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates fire and paramedical radios; receives emergency and non-emergency request for service by telephone and radio; dispatches fire and paramedical units in accordance with the location and nature of the call; maintains an electronic log through entry into a computer-aided dispatch system of radio transmissions and records of occurrences during an assigned shift; operates 911 computer equipment and dispatches proper units; secures information from persons in state of excitement or panic to assure adequate emergency response while giving instructions according to emergency medical dispatch protocol; connects incoming calls to appropriate party; takes appropriate action based on nature of call; maintains contact with fire and emergency rescue departments; ability to perform several functions at the same time, usually in a stressful emergency situation; ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language; performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
During the interview process, candidates will be scheduled to take the CritiCall, 911 dispatch test. CritiCall is a computerized pre-employment test used to measure a person's underlying skills and abilities prior to any training they receive if they are hired as a public safety dispatcher and/or call taker. Must have one year work experience that shows the ability to maintain steady employment in any field
Must be at least 19 years old
Must have a high school diploma or GED
Must sign a training and promissory contract
Must be able to work any day and any shift
Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays
Computer and typing skills
Customer service skills necessary
