Full Job Description

Provides proactive advance planning, as well as companionship, comfort, and guidance while clients face the phases of an end-of-life illness. Serves those at Landis Homes, its affiliates, and the greater community. Works flexible hours as needed. In addition to direct doula support, this role provides oversight, coordination, and leadership for the doula team.

Support the client's end-of planning, legacy project, vigil needs, and closure
Engage loved ones and volunteers in meaningful, supportive activities as desired by the client
Refer clients to appropriate services outside the scope of the doula role
Respect the involvement of clergy and chaplains as desired by the client
Support family connections as preferred by the client
Participate in rituals such as the Walk of Honor on the Landis Homes campus and other end-of-life rituals off campus as appropriate
Provide presence and comfort during the vigil and dying process
Offer caregiver education and respite presence, normalizing expected changes in the dying process without providing medical advice
Coordinate practical next steps after death, including rituals, space care, and connections with funeral or memorial providers, according to the client's wishes
Provide early engagement from diagnosis onward to prioritize what matters most and prepare for anticipated changes
Assess the needs and desires of the client and complete a Service Agreement
Maintain clear role boundaries as a non-medical support professional and refrain from clinical tasks or medical advice
Collaborate proactively with the interdisciplinary team such as hospice, palliative care, chaplains/clergy, social work, nursing, and volunteers to ensure aligned support

Must be at least 18 years of age
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Human Services field or equivalent experience, Master’s degree preferred
Completion of recognized End-of-Life Doula training program required
End-of-Life Doula certificate through a national or regional doula organization preferred
Minimum 3 years of experience providing direct support in end-of-life, hospice, palliative care, or related settings preferred
Experience in staff or volunteer supervision, coaching, or team leadership preferred
Demonstrated ability to facilitate legacy projects, life review, and personalized rituals
Strong skills in emotional presence, active listening, and non-directive support
Knowledge of grief processes and family dynamics at end-of-life
Ability to collaborate respectfully with clergy, chaplains, and interdisciplinary care teams
Ability to provide feedback related to this program and assist in marketing efforts
Proficient in use of computers and related technology required for the role
Good verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills required
Pleasant, calm personality with flexibility and adaptability for the unexpected
Openness to support diverse beliefs and traditions
