Full Job Description

About the position

Huntington Learning Center is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, and dependable person to help with the daily operation of our learning center.

This is a hands-on position combining administrative support, family interaction, student scheduling, and occasional instruction. You will often be the first person students and parents see when they enter the center, so we need someone who is warm, outgoing, professional, and genuinely enjoys helping children succeed.

Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, a “doer” who notices what needs attention and takes care of it without waiting to be given the next assignment. The center can be fast-paced, particularly during after-school hours, so this person must be able to prioritize, stay organized, and move comfortably between several responsibilities.

A current or retired teacher is preferred because this person may also help administer assessments, monitor instruction, and work directly with students when needed.

Primary responsibilities

Welcome students and families and help create a positive, professional environment
Answer telephone calls, respond to routine emails, and assist parents with general questions
Coordinate student and tutor schedules
Make scheduling adjustments when students or tutors are absent
Collect student information and assist with new-student intake
Administer and grade student assessments
Enter and maintain accurate student information in our center software
Collect tuition and process customer payments
Prepare student, teacher, testing, and conference binders
Schedule student retesting and maintain testing records
Monitor the teaching floor and help ensure students remain engaged
Assist with teacher onboarding, records, and communication
Review student binders and help maintain required documentation
Track teacher hours and prepare information used for payroll
Monitor office and instructional inventory
Perform light cleaning and help keep the center organized
Provide student instruction when needed and qualified
Assist the Center Director with other day-to-day operational responsibilities

The most important part of the job

Coordinating student and tutor schedules is one of the most important and sometimes most challenging part of this position. The right person will be comfortable working through scheduling conflicts, communicating changes clearly, and finding practical solutions when plans change.

Strong organizational and time-management skills
Friendly, enthusiastic, and professional personality
Genuine interest in children and education
Ability to remain calm and organized in a busy environment
Ability to prioritize tasks and work with limited supervision
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Comfortable answering phones and interacting with parents
Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn our center software
Dependable attendance and punctuality
Good judgment and attention to detail
Bachelor’s degree required

Preferred qualifications

Current or former teaching license
Classroom, tutoring, school-office, or educational administrative experience
Experience scheduling students, employees, appointments, or services
Experience working directly with parents and school-age children
Ability to provide reading, writing, or math instruction when needed

A teaching license is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong administrative, scheduling, customer-service, or educational experience are encouraged to apply.

Schedule and availability

This is a part-time, on-site position. The number of hours may vary based on student enrollment and the needs of the center. Busier periods will require more hours, while weekly hours may decrease when enrollment is lower.

Applicants must be comfortable with a variable part-time schedule and available during after-school and early-evening hours. A typical schedule may look something like:

During school-year availability:

Shifts scheduled Monday through Thursday, generally between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

During summer availability:

Shifts scheduled Monday through Thursday, generally including one evening shift and three morning shifts
Weekday shifts may fall between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
