Our production crews depend on having the correct materials, tools, equipment, trailers, and information available when they need them. The Construction Runner / Driver & Production Support employee plays an important role in keeping our projects organized, productive, and moving forward.
Position Overview
Bealing Roofing & Exteriors is seeking a dependable, hardworking Construction Runner / Driver & Production Support employee to support our roofing, siding, gutter, chimney, carpentry, and production teams.
This is a physically active, hands-on position. It is not simply a job that involves driving from one location to another.
The employee will spend the day:
- Delivering and retrieving company trailers.
- Backing and positioning trailers at residential jobsites.
- Picking up and delivering materials.
- Loading and unloading trucks and trailers.
- Transporting tools and equipment.
- Organizing the warehouse and yard.
- Assisting with jobsite setup and cleanup.
- Responding to the daily needs of our production crews.
The Construction Runner must understand that a roofing or exterior project can come to a stop when a crew is missing an important material, tool, trailer, or piece of equipment. This position requires urgency, organization, good judgment, physical effort, and consistent communication with the production team.
The ideal candidate will take pride in being the person who helps solve problems, keeps crews productive, and makes sure trailers, materials, tools, and equipment arrive safely, accurately, and on time.
Nature of the Position
This is not just a driving position.
The Construction Runner / Driver will be expected to:
- Perform physical work throughout the day.
- Regularly load and unload construction materials.
- Safely tow, back, position, and retrieve company trailers.
- Work outside in changing weather conditions.
- Enter and work around active construction sites.
- Help crews with jobsite setup and cleanup.
- Organize materials, tools, vehicles, trailers, and warehouse areas.
- Respond quickly when a crew needs an item to continue working.
- Safely transport valuable tools, equipment, and construction materials.
- Remain productive between deliveries and assigned errands.
The Construction Runner may be asked to perform different responsibilities throughout the day depending on the needs of the production department.
Major Trailer Responsibility
A major responsibility of this position is safely transporting, backing, positioning, and retrieving company trailers at residential construction sites.
The employee must be highly proficient at backing trailers into narrow driveways, confined jobsites, alleys, yards, and other tight locations. Many projects have limited access and may include parked vehicles, landscaping, mailboxes, garages, retaining walls, utility equipment, overhead obstructions, slopes, and neighboring property.
This position requires more than basic towing experience.
The employee must be able to confidently and efficiently maneuver a truck and trailer while maintaining control, protecting property, and positioning the trailer where the production crew needs it.
Candidates must have demonstrated trailer-backing ability and may be required to complete a practical driving and trailer-backing evaluation as part of the hiring process.
Trailer Transportation and Placement Responsibilities
- Deliver, position, retrieve, and transport company dump trailers, utility trailers, and equipment trailers.
- Safely back trailers into narrow residential driveways and confined jobsites.
- Position trailers as close as reasonably possible to the work area without damaging customer property.
- Evaluate the driveway, access point, slope, overhead clearance, ground conditions, and surrounding obstacles before backing.
- Use mirrors, backup cameras, spotters, and proper backing procedures.
- Get out of the vehicle and inspect the area whenever clearance or visibility is uncertain.
- Maintain control of the vehicle and trailer while backing on hills, slopes, uneven surfaces, and tight turns.
- Avoid damage to homes, garages, vehicles, mailboxes, curbs, sidewalks, lawns, landscaping, utilities, and neighboring properties.
- Safely connect and disconnect trailers.
- Properly level, secure, chock, and stabilize trailers after placement.
- Confirm that trailer doors, gates, tarps, jacks, hitches, safety chains, lights, brakes, and loads are secure.
- Never leave a trailer in a location that creates an unnecessary traffic, safety, or customer-access hazard.
- Communicate immediately when a trailer cannot be safely placed in the requested location.
- Transport loaded dump trailers to approved disposal facilities.
- Obtain and organize landfill, disposal, or dumping receipts.
- Monitor trailer availability and communicate when trailers need to be emptied, moved, repaired, or reassigned.
- Keep company trailers clean, safe, maintained, and ready for the next project.
- Immediately report any contact with a vehicle, building, mailbox, landscaping, utility, or other property, regardless of how minor the damage may appear.
Material Pickup and Delivery
- Pick up and deliver roofing, siding, gutter, carpentry, chimney, insulation, and other construction materials.
- Transport tools and equipment between the Bealing facility, suppliers, jobsites, and company vehicles.
- Complete time-sensitive trips to supply houses, hardware stores, equipment rental companies, and other vendors.
- Verify that materials match purchase orders, delivery instructions, or requests from the production team.
- Count and inspect materials before leaving the supplier whenever practical.
- Confirm that materials are delivered to the correct jobsite and placed in the appropriate location.
- Protect materials from damage during loading, transportation, and unloading.
- Secure all loads properly before leaving a supplier, warehouse, or jobsite.
- Immediately report missing, incorrect, damaged, or backordered materials.
- Return unused materials, tools, equipment, pallets, and supplier items as directed.
- Collect and maintain receipts, delivery tickets, return documents, and other required paperwork.
Loading and Unloading
- Load and unload materials, tools, ladders, equipment, and jobsite supplies.
- Regularly lift and carry heavy construction materials.
- Safely move bundles, rolls, boxes, lumber, plywood, metal, siding accessories, and other building products.
- Use hand trucks, carts, dollies, wheelbarrows, lift gates, and other material-handling equipment.
- Properly distribute and secure loads in trucks, vans, and trailers.
- Help prevent damage to company vehicles, customer property, materials, and equipment.
- Request assistance or use mechanical equipment when a load cannot be handled safely by one person.
- Help crews load debris, unused materials, tools, and equipment at the completion of a project.
Jobsite Support
- Deliver emergency, forgotten, or additional materials so crews can continue working.
- Assist with unloading and staging materials at the jobsite.
- Help set up tarps, ground protection, tools, ladders, and other equipment when directed.
- Assist with jobsite cleanup when needed.
- Pick up loose debris and construction materials.
- Help complete magnetic nail sweeps around driveways, sidewalks, lawns, and work areas.
- Load debris, unused materials, tools, and equipment.
- Help prepare jobsites for inspections or final walkthroughs.
- Transport photographs, documents, samples, permits, or other project-related items when needed.
- Follow instructions from the Production Manager, Project Managers, Lead Carpenter, and other authorized team members.
- Assist production employees with basic field tasks when deliveries, trailer assignments, and errands are current.
- Protect the customer’s home, driveway, lawn, landscaping, and personal property.
The Construction Runner is not expected to be a skilled roofer or carpenter when hired, but must be willing to learn construction materials, tools, jobsite procedures, and Bealing Roofing production standards.
About This Opportunity
The Construction Runner / Driver & Production Support position is an important part of the Bealing Roofing production team.
Our crews cannot remain productive without the correct materials, tools, equipment, trailers, and support. We are looking for someone who understands that every trailer delivery, trailer placement, material pickup, return, cleanup assignment, and jobsite request contributes to the successful completion of a customer’s project.
The right person will be dependable, physically capable, organized, safety-minded, skilled at maneuvering trailers, and willing to perform whatever reasonable work is needed to help the production team succeed.
This is not a position for someone who only wants to drive. It is a hands-on construction support position for someone who enjoys staying busy, solving problems, safely handling trailers, and helping the entire production team remain productive.
This now presents trailer backing and placement as one of the defining skills of the position, while keeping all of Eduardo’s other field-support, material, warehouse, cleanup, and production responsibilities.
Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
