Job Summary
JDS Design Build is seeking a creative, highly organized Junior Designer to support our Design Team in bringing residential remodeling projects from concept through construction.
This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging designer who wants hands-on experience in a true design-build environment. You'll work alongside experienced designers while supporting material selections, renderings, design documentation, procurement, client meetings, and the many details required to turn a design concept into a beautifully completed home.
At JDS, design doesn't stop with creating a beautiful space. Our Design Team works closely with preconstruction, estimating, procurement, and construction to make sure every design is thoughtfully developed, clearly documented, and ultimately buildable.
What You’ll Do
Support the Design Process
- Assist Lead Designers and Designers throughout all phases of residential design
- Support concept development, space planning, material selections, and design development
- Research and source materials, fixtures, finishes, furnishings, and other project selections
- Order and organize samples for client presentations and design development
- Assist with preparing presentation boards and client-facing design materials
- Produce high-quality renderings that help clients visualize their completed spaces
- Support the development and revision of plans, elevations, and other design documentation
Keep Project Details Organized
- Enter and maintain product specifications within our design and project management systems
- Maintain project binders, specification books, and design documentation
- Keep vendor information, product details, pricing, and supporting documentation organized
- Assist with Finish Schedules and ensure project information remains accurate and current
- Take detailed notes during client and internal meetings
- Document design decisions, selections, approvals, and action items
- Help ensure information is accurately communicated between the Design Team and other JDS departments
Support Procurement & Order Tracking
- Track furnishing orders from purchase through shipment, receipt, and storage
- Maintain current order statuses and estimated lead times
- Follow up with vendors regarding acknowledgments, shipping information, backorders, and delivery updates
- Assist with reviewing vendor acknowledgments and identifying discrepancies
- Coordinate with Designers when substitutions, delays, damages, or other order issues arise
- Assist with receiving and inspecting deliveries when needed
- Help ensure materials and selections are documented and available when the project needs them
Support Client Meetings
- Prepare materials, samples, presentations, and documentation for client meetings
- Attend design meetings and document decisions, approvals, and next steps
- Support Designers during presentations and selection meetings
- Assist with follow-up items after meetings
- Help create an organized, professional, and enjoyable experience for our clients throughout the design process
Collaborate With the JDS Team
You'll work closely with Lead Designers, Designers, our Production Team, and other members of JDS to help keep projects moving smoothly from design into construction.
You'll receive direction and mentorship from experienced designers while gradually taking on greater design responsibility as your skills and knowledge develop.
What We’re Looking For
- Education or experience in interior design, architecture, residential design, or a related field
- Strong design instincts and genuine interest in residential interiors
- Ability to create professional renderings and presentation materials
- Familiarity with drafting, plans, elevations, and construction documents
- Interest in learning residential construction and how design decisions translate into the field
- Strong computer and design software skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable communicating professionally with clients, vendors, and team members
- Willingness to receive feedback, learn quickly, and continually improve
- Proactive approach—you notice what needs to be done and follow through
- Collaborative attitude and willingness to support the team wherever needed

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
