American Steel and Aluminum LLC, a leading metals distribution and fabrication supplier since 1806, is seeking a dynamic candidate to join our Liverpool, NY location as an Inside Sales Specialist.
The ideal candidate would have experience in working in an ever-changing, fast-moving, and evolving environment. Candidates who have worked within a manufacturing/distribution environment are highly preferred.
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Inside Sales Representative to join our growing custom metal fabrication and steel distribution team. This position serves as the primary point of contact for customers, preparing quotations, processing orders, coordinating with production, and ensuring projects move efficiently from inquiry through delivery.
The ideal candidate has excellent communication and organizational skills, understands manufacturing or industrial products, and enjoys building long-term customer relationships. Experience in the steel industry, fabrication, or manufacturing is preferred. CAD or SolidWorks experience is not required but is considered a valuable asset.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Respond to customer inquiries by phone and email in a professional and timely manner.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, and RFQs to prepare accurate quotations.
- Coordinate with estimating, engineering, purchasing, and production to determine pricing, lead times, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Process customer orders and ensure order accuracy from entry through shipment.
- Follow up on quotations to increase sales opportunities and conversion rates.
- Provide customers with order status updates and proactively communicate schedule changes.
- Assist customers in identifying cost-effective manufacturing solutions and value-added services.
- Coordinate material availability with purchasing and inventory personnel.
- Resolve customer concerns and issues quickly while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate customer records, pricing, and sales activity within the company's ERP or CRM system.
- Support outside sales representatives by preparing quotations, gathering technical information, and assisting with project coordination.
- Collaborate with production to ensure customer expectations regarding quality, delivery, and specifications are met.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve customer service and internal processes.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3+ years of inside sales, customer service, estimating, or project coordination experience in manufacturing, steel distribution, or industrial sales preferred.
- Experience reading manufacturing drawings and blueprints is highly desirable.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Experience with ERP or CRM software is preferred.
- CAD or SolidWorks experience is not required, but is considered a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with production and engineering teams.
Preferred Experience
- Steel service center or metal fabrication experience.
- Contract manufacturing or job shop environment.
- Knowledge of structural steel, plate, sheet, tubing, and fabrication processes.
- Understanding of laser cutting, forming, machining, welding, and finishing operations.
- Experience preparing manufacturing quotations or estimating projects.

Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based position with occasional visits to the production floor.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
