JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Fabrication Managers, Senior Lead Carpenters are responsible for managing teams of Lead carpenters for the fabrication, installation, and handling of custom projects. Senior Lead Carpenters will work closely with the Director of Fabrication, Fabrication Managers, and Carpentry Foreman to ensure they meet the established quality standards and timelines of all projects. They must have knowledge of fabrication specific to special events, staging, theater and retail displays, ability to interpret blueprints and experience leading a crew. In addition to the duties of a Lead Carpenter, Senior Lead Carpenters will be responsible for training, onboarding and mentoring carpenters, leading large-scale builds and installs with the support of a Lead Carpenter and the rest of the build team. Senior Lead carpenters will also assist in the continued development of communication protocols, fabrication processes, build approaches, and quality control. This job is a career choice. Essential Responsibilities:
- Partnering with Project Managers to establish timelines for each aspect of the build, especially where bottleneck moments are foreseen
- Managing your Fab Team’s builds and delegating tasks amongst a team of Leads, including but not limited to tasks above the Lead’s skill level
- Providing instruction on build methods and approaches to all carpenters, with a keen focus on quality when finishing and/or delivering to other departments
- Consulting and coordinating with the Fabrication Manager and Drafting Team on build approaches and technical drawing review
- Assessing and providing feedback on aptitude and identifying areas of improvement for all carpenters
- Overseeing general quality control during the construction, transportation, and installation of builds
- Managing and coordinating the integration of components provided by members of your Fab Team, other departments, and outside vendors
- Coordinating with other Department Leads to establish build plans, timelines, and finishes that maximize efficient work flow of projects
- Working from drawings to verify dimensions and assist Lead carpenters in their builds, with attention to detail and quality control
- Maintaining best practices and sound fabrication techniques among all carpenters
- Managing workload and physical space to highest efficiency, while maintaining and upgrading the carpentry shop to reach maximum efficiency
- Rolling out new methods, tools, techniques, and general knowledge of PS processes
- Building kits, tables, tool modifications, and other items to boost general efficiency
- Effectively communicating, both orally and in writing while remaining professional at all times
- Ensuring proper safety practices are followed, personal protective equipment is worn at all times, and that a clean, safe and efficient work space is maintained
- Act as Lead Carpenter, as needed, based on operational goals and team capacity
Required:
- 8+ years of related carpentry experience and 4+ years of experience in a carpentry leadership position
- Extensive knowledge of stationary and hand-held power tools including table saw, routers and typical rotary and circular bit/blade tools
- Possession of basic hand tools and reliable transportation to job sites
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary to deliver the project on time
- Willingness to travel on projects for out of town installs
- Ability to use ladders and carry at least 80 pounds
- Knowledge of building materials pertinent to industry standards, focused on sheet goods made of wood, laminate and plastics
Pay: $41.00 - $50.00 per hour
