Job Description and Duties

Under close supervision of the Senior Accounting Officer (Supervisor), the Accountant Trainee performs accounts payable functions of average difficulty for the State Lands Commission (Commission). Duties include proper coding, recording, and reconciliation of payment transactions in accordance with State Controller’s Office (SCO), Department of Finance (DOF), State Administrative Manual (SAM), Financial Information System of California (Fi$Cal), Department of General Services (DGS) and Commission rules and regulations.

Note:

Posted salaries do not reflect the 2 - 4.62% pay reduction in exchange for 3.5 – 8 hours per month of leave arising from the Personal Leave Program 2025. Information related to salary reductions is available in Section 2113 of the CalHR Human Resources Manual.
New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable.

Working Conditions

This position is office-based.
Primarily an indoor office setting located in Sacramento.

Work environment is mostly inside an office with artificial light and forced air temperature control.
Daily use of a personal computer, software programs, and a telephone at a workstation, for prolonged periods.
Daily use of fax, copiers, and general office equipment.
Bend, stoop, and stand while performing some tasks.
Transport materials or objects weighing up to 25 pounds
This work unit is subject to core business hours between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Professional office environment, appropriate business attire required.
Vacation time off may be limited during the months of June-August for year-end closing deadline.
