Overview:
We are looking for Group Fitness Coaches that have a passion and love for helping others accomplish their goals. We are looking for MAT Pilates, spin, yoga and high fitness coaches. This is a low hour time commitment job where you will teach 45-60 minute classes and occasional staff meetings.
Responsibilities:
- Design a safe and effective exercise program for patrons.

Clean spaces and equipment that the fitness and wellness department are responsible for.

Build clientele by establishing rapport and marketing services to the USU community.

Teach all scheduled classes and obtain substitutes when needed.

Ability to adapt exercises and class format to fit participant needs.

Participate in bi-annual peer evaluations and group evaluations.

Effectively and frequently communicate with all staff members.

Assist in all special activities, including but not limited to complimentary workouts, promotional programs, and wellness workshops.

Attend all mandatory staff meeting held the first Friday of every month from 5:30-7pm

Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Fitness Policy Manual
Qualifications:
- USU Group Fitness Coaches are required to have a AFAA Instructor Certification 2 weeks before the start date.

Current CPR certification (we can help you get one).

Advertised Salary: $15.00 per hour ADA:
Fitness Coaches at Utah State University Campus Recreation work primarily in fitness studios and multipurpose rooms within the ARC. Classes may include formats such as strength, cardio, cycling, or mind-body workouts. The environment is energetic and music-driven, with frequent interaction with students, faculty, and community participants. Fitness Coaches may teach in dim or bright studio settings and occasionally assist with special fitness events or programs.
Physical Demands
The position requires instructors to stand and move continuously for the duration of classes (typically 30–60 minutes). Coaches must demonstrate exercises, maintain high energy, and use clear physical cues. The role may involve lifting and setting up equipment such as weights, steps, or resistance bands (generally up to 30–40lbs). Repetitive movements such as jumping, squatting, lunging, and reaching are common while leading classes.
Mental Demands
Fitness Coaches must stay attentive to class participants to ensure safe exercise technique and provide modifications for varying fitness levels. The role requires strong communication, motivation, and the ability to maintain class flow while managing music, timing, and choreography or workout structure. Coaches must also be adaptable, think quickly if issues arise, and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
