Job Summary
The Paint Shop Supervisor/ Advanced Painter oversees daily paint shop operations for roller coaster and amusement ride parts. This role combines hands-on industrial painting expertise with leadership responsibilities, including supervising paint shop employees, coordinating workflow, maintaining equipment, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
Responsibilities

Supervise daily paint shop operations, including painters and sandblasters

Assign and prioritize work based on production schedules and work orders

Inspect painted parts to ensure quality, coverage, and customer specifications are met

Coordinate outsourced painting or sandblasting work as needed

Train and support employees on painting techniques, equipment use, and safety procedures

Perform advanced industrial and automotive painting tasks, including prep work, masking, sanding, priming, body work, touch-up, and custom painting

Apply specialized coatings including zinc primers, base/clear coats, tri-coats, and bedliners

Maintain paint inventory and coordinate ordering of materials and supplies

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain paint shop equipment and systems

Ensure preventative maintenance is completed on paint booths, blasting equipment, spray equipment, PPE systems, and related tools

Maintain paint logs and environmental records in compliance with regulations

Promote and enforce safe work practices, including proper rigging, forklift operation, and PPE use

Maintain a clean and organized work area

Work closely with project managers, vendors, and production teams to meet project deadlines

Assist with budgeting for equipment, maintenance, and materials

Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training preferred

3–5 years of industrial and/or automotive painting experience required

Supervisory or leadership experience preferred

Strong knowledge of industrial and automotive painting methods, coatings, and finishing techniques

Experience with custom and FRP painting preferred

Mechanical troubleshooting and equipment maintenance experience required

Knowledge of shop safety practices, rigging, and forklift operation

Ability to lead a team, prioritize work, and manage production flow

Basic computer skills, including email, time tracking, and product research

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
