Full Job Description

Salary Range: $29.16 - $40.21

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

This position reports to the Director of Surgical Services.
Functions under the supervision of an RN.
Is not permitted to function as a circulating nurse and is restricted from administering medication completing patient records or carrying out direct physician orders regarding treatment of patients.
Assists with nursing care of patients during the intra-operative period by performing routine, delegated scrub nurse duties.
Ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the department’s standards of care.
Demonstrates satisfactory performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization.
Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice.
Remains flexible to changing systems.
Treats patients, families, visitors, peers and physicians with consideration and respect.
Works well under stress and with tight deadlines.
Communicates concerns appropriately using the established chain of command.

District Responsibility

Supports the District mission, vision and values statements.
Demonstrate respect, professionalism and courtesy to all patients, visitors, other providers and coworkers, as delineated in the LVMC “Commitment to Care”.
Consistently uses C-I-CARE principles when communicating with others.
Maintains all principles of confidentiality according to District policy and as required by State and Federal agencies.
Follows guidelines and practices identified in the Employee Handbook.
Attends education programs as assigned to learn new procedures.
Completes hospital-wide skills competencies annually.
Complies with annual PPD testing.
Maintains responsibility for own professional development.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

Demonstrates knowledge to assess and maintain a sterile fieldand ensures appropriate inventory levels are being maintained.
Demonstrates knowledge of specific surgical procedures performed, including supplies and Instrumentation.
Maintains ability to perform competencies within scope of Surgical Technician duties.
Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Is able to interpret data about the patient’s status to identify each patient’s age specific needs and to provide the care and supplies needed appropriate to the patient’s age group.
Demonstrates proficiency at assembling sterile trays and process of sterilization.
Demonstrates the ability to function as a team member within the unit and the department.

Essential Functions:

The ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
The ability to grip or grasp equipment for prolonged periods of time.
The ability to push, pull, reach, bend, kneel, squat, grip, grasp and lift when dealing with various equipment.
The ability to have fine motor skills.
Maintains any certifications required of this position.
Demonstrates the ability to have positive personal interactions with staff, patients, visitors and physicians.
Accepts appropriate supervision.

Position Qualifications:

Education: High school Diploma or Equivalent, Certified from college or technical school; six months experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Any combination of training, education and work experience that demonstrates the ability to satisfactorily perform the duties and responsibilities for the position. Typical qualifying experience is 6 months experience as a Nurse’s Assistant or O.R. Technician.
Certifications: BLS required from the American Heart Association.
Skills/Ability: Current knowledge reasonable time after hire. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exhibits the ability to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy. Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.
LVMC reserves the right to modify the minimum requirements depending on the needs of the organization.
