Construction Project Accountant

Pay: $75,000 - $90,000 per year

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Location: Los Angeles, CA 90064 (In Person)

About the Role

We are a Los Angeles-based General Contractor specializing in multifamily and mixed-use construction seeking an experienced Construction Project Accountant to join our team.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys improving processes, leveraging technology, and finding smarter ways to work. We value team members who embrace automation, AI-assisted tools, and continuous process improvement to increase accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Prepare monthly progress billings based off the standard AIA G702 & G703 format for Cost Plus projects.
Prepare draft “pencil” draws of monthly billings and meet on-site with project teams to review.
Understanding of Subcontractor Schedule of Values and work in place.
Monitor project budgets, job costs, commitments, retainage, and receivables.
Review budget-to-actual costs and assist with forecasting.
Process subcontractor pay applications, contracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
Assist in tracking owner change orders and oversee change order logs.
Monitor subcontractor compliance, including Certificates of Insurance (COIs), W-9s, preliminary notices, and lien waivers.
Track executed subcontracts and maintain accurate project documentation.
Partner with Project Managers to support accurate project financial reporting.
Evaluate existing accounting and billing workflows and recommend automation or technology solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Lead or support the implementation of technology solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the accounting function.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of construction project accounting experience with a commercial or multifamily General Contractor.
Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, change orders, construction contracts, and lien waivers.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, formulas).
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record that meets the Company's insurance requirements.
Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to project sites throughout the Los Angeles area as needed.

Preferred

Experience with Sage 300 CRE (Timberline), Procore, and Bluebeam.
Experience identifying manual accounting or billing processes and implementing automation, AI-assisted solutions, systems integrations, or other technology-driven improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Please Note: This position requires construction project accounting experience with a General Contractor. Candidates whose experience is limited to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or general bookkeeping are not the right fit for this role.
