Job Summary

The People Operations Lead is a highly self-directed role responsible for leading and executing day-to-day HR and people operations with minimal supervision. This position requires a resourceful, organized, and proactive professional who can take ownership of assignments from start to finish without hand-holding.

The ideal candidate is a critical thinker who manages their time effectively, identifies gaps before they become issues, and asks thoughtful clarifying questions when expectations or assignments are unclear. This role plays a key part in maintaining HR compliance, implementing policies, organizing employee documentation, and building efficient systems that support a smooth and compliant workflow.

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys working in a start-up or growth-phase environment, understands budget limitations, and remains solutions-focused rather than discouraged by evolving resources.

Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Hiring

Independently manage job postings across platforms such as Indeed, Craigslist, and LinkedIn
Proactively source candidates through recruiting events and job fairs
Screen resumes, conduct initial interviews, and coordinate hiring processes with department leadership
Lead onboarding and orientation for new hires, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and completion

Training & Development

Create, update, and implement training materials related to onboarding, HR policies, and best practices
Identify training gaps and recommend improvements to leadership
Track training completion and maintain organized training records

Employee Relations & Policy Implementation

Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and workplace matters
Support leadership with employee relations issues, including verbal warnings, corrective actions, and performance improvement plans
Apply sound judgment and critical thinking when navigating sensitive or complex situations
Ensure HR policies and procedures are current, clearly communicated, and consistently implemented

Compliance, Documentation & Employee Binders

Maintain up-to-date employee binders for all staff, both digital and physical
Ensure all policies, acknowledgments, certifications, and required documentation are current and properly filed
Develop and implement tracking systems to monitor outstanding documents and follow up with employees to ensure timely submission
Create clear processes and accountability measures that support staff in meeting documentation requirements
Maintain employee files in a manner that supports audits, reviews, and regulatory compliance

Systems, Organization & Time Management

Implement and maintain organized systems for HR files, employee binders, tracking, and workflows
Manage time efficiently, prioritize competing tasks, and meet deadlines independently
Identify inefficiencies and proactively recommend or implement solutions to improve workflow and compliance
Ask thoughtful, clarifying questions when expectations, scope, or assignments are unclear

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred, not required)
2+ years of experience in HR, recruitment, or people operations
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Comfortable working in a small, family-run organization
Adaptable and resilient in a start-up or growth-phase environment with evolving systems and budget limitations
High level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information
Proficiency in Google Suites and HR systems, and Connecteams
Bilingual in Spanish (required or strongly preferred)
