PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The Skid Row Care Campus is a Los Angeles County and community-driven program that aims to bring dignity and hope via a comprehensive service hub offering a full suite of harm reduction services and programming, including medical and mental health care, respite beds, laundry, showers, and restrooms, volunteer and employment opportunities, and a broad array of extracurricular programming via a network of community partners.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Hygiene Program Associate works under the direction of the Hygiene Program Lead and is part of a multidisciplinary team of providers operating the Skid Row Care Campus. The Hygiene Program Associate’s focus is maintaining the hygiene component of the program, which includes the shower, restroom, and laundry facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring that all restrooms and showers are cleaned, sanitized, and restocked regularly, as well as handling laundry duties. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and take pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for all guests. This role requires working outdoors over 50% of the time. Standing, lifting, bending, loading and unloading supplies required on a daily basis. This position requires weekend and possible evening hours, for a total of 40 hours per week.
PRINICIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement and consistently practice harm reduction, trauma-informed care, housing first philosophy, and integrated care interventions
- Maintain a positive, warm, welcoming environment in cooperation with additional facility partners Meet, greet, and direct guests/clients to appropriate resources available on-site
- Conduct custodial duties including thorough cleaning of showers, restrooms, and/or laundry facilities
- Clean and sanitize all shower areas, restrooms, sinks, mirrors, and surrounding spaces after each use
- Ensure that all supplies (toilet paper, soap, paper towels, toilet seat covers, bath towels, terry towels, shampoos/conditioner, body wash, other hygiene supplies, etc.) are stocked and replenished regularly

- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene at all times
- Work safely with a variety of cleaning supplies
- Collect and sort laundry items such as towels, linens, and other laundry-related items
- Operate washing machines and dryers, following proper laundering instructions to ensure the longevity and cleanliness of items
- Store guest laundry appropriately for easy access
- Maintain inventory of laundry supplies and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be reordered
- Ensure laundry areas are neat, organized, and free from hazards
- Regularly disinfect high-touch surfaces, including door handles, light switches, and countertops
- Empty trash cans and replace liners as needed
- Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained and in good working condition
- Answer questions regarding the Skid Row Care Campus resources, hours, and procedures
- Develop relationships with representatives in other agencies to support individuals in attaining services
- Provide referrals and warm handoffs to other service providers as needed
- Able to serve a diverse vulnerable client populations and communicate effectively in a culturally competent manner
- Respond to overdose or other emergency situations, as needed
- Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment, utilizing professional, open and respectful communication.
- Maintains a solution-focused, strengths-based and client-centered approach with managers, Directors, colleagues, co-workers, partners, and guests of the Skid Row Care Campus
- Ensure performance management standards are met through ongoing supervision and addressing barriers as they arise
- Attend and participate in all required contractual, agency, and professional development trainings
- Must complete Overdose Prevention and other trainings, as required
- Comply and maintain familiarity with agency and program policies and procedures and other applicable regulations
- Attend and participate in supervision, staff meetings, trainings, workshops, and special projects to promote professional development
- Model HHCLA approach, mission, and core values in all communication, correspondence, community events, and advocacy efforts
- Report to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance
Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: REQUIRED Education and
Work Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in related cleaning/janitorial field(s) and/or human services arena; OR lived experience with homelessness, incarceration, sex work and/or substance use Knowledge and Skills: Familiar with the principles of Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Informed Care

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Strong de-escalation skills
- Cultural fluency with the Skid Row community
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Staff success and professional development is a priority at HHCLA. Staff will receive regular individual supervision with their direct supervisor. Additionally, direct service staff will have the opportunity to participate in group supervision, which provides a learning and supportive environment to promote quality client care, self-care and a healthy work environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While the Harm Reduction approach allows HHCLA to care for members of the highly vulnerable population of community members who use substances and have been largely dismissed by other agencies and programs, this approach also entails caring for guests with co-occurring substance use addiction and complex mental health conditions who present more challenging behaviors. The work environment at the Skid Row Care Campus thus includes guests who frequently present in an escalated state. Those with a low tolerance for escalated behavior or minimal experience with de-escalation may find the work environment at the Skid Row Care Campus challenging and/or inconsistent with their standard for a suitable workplace environment.
