Job Summary
Adjunct faculty members facilitate student achievement of course objectives consistent with academic program requirements. Depending on the program/class needs and adjunct interests, assignments can be undergraduate and/or graduate sections in formats to include fully online, fully in-person at the Gulf Park Campus, or a blend of online and in-person.
The School of Leadership offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, and they are listed below. Additional details for each program, including specific classes offered, can be found at our website under “Programs”: usm.edu/leadership.
Undergraduate Programs
Applied Technology BAS – Offers a pathway for two-year career technical and/or military transfer students to expand their leadership skills beyond their technical competencies in pursuit of bachelor’s degree. All classes are fully online.
Business Administration (General Business) BSBA – Provides students with functional knowledge and skills in accounting, finance, management, and marketing that may be applied in a variety of organizational settings. Classes are offered both online and in-person.
Industrial Engineering Technology BS – Focuses on industrial systems design, integration, and management using analytical and computational tools to improve productivity and solve problems. All classes are fully online.
Industrial Engineering Technology (Logistics) BS – Integrates industrial engineering technology foundations with logistics and supply chain management tools and best practices to promote organizational success. All classes are fully online.
Organizational Leadership BSBA – Prepares students to navigate the challenges surrounding the rapidly developing Blue Economy. The program’s unique combination of business skills, leadership, human capital development, organizational logistics, decision analytics, and strategic marketing communications offers limitless potential. Classes are offered both online and in-person.
Graduate Programs
Human Capital Development MS – Focuses on human-centered leadership, workforce and talent development, organizational learning, and performance improvement through an applied curriculum designed to strengthen research foundations, consulting practice, experiential learning, and evidence-based performance improvement. The program prepares working professionals to lead organizational growth, design and implement workforce development initiatives, apply evidence-based strategies, and improve employee and organizational performance across a variety of industries and sectors. All courses are fully online.
Human Capital Development PhD – Emphasizes a scholar-practitioner approach to organizational development, leadership, performance improvement and evaluation, learning and talent development, workforce development, qualitative and quantitative research methods, statistics, and applied organizational practice. The program prepares experienced professionals to generate and apply research that addresses complex organizational challenges while advancing leadership and organizational effectiveness. The program is delivered in an executive-format model.
Logistics and Supply Chain Management MS – Teaches a systematic approach to balance the demands of logistics, trade, and transportation with supply chain management strategies. All classes are fully online.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

Online and/or face-to-face course delivery and instruction.

Prepare and submit syllabi, grades, and other required course documentation in the appropriate time and manner.

Communicate course requirements and expectations to students.

Follow policies and procedures of the School of Leadership, College of Business and Economic Development, and The University of Southern Mississippi.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a discipline related to the assigned course of instruction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

Candidate must have earned 18 graduate hours in the area of instruction (e.g., management, marketing, finance, logistics, etc.)

The ability to deliver accurate, concise, and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner.

The ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff in the unit.

The ability to navigate and use web browsers, Canvas (i.e., USM’s learning management system), Microsoft Office, and other relevant programs.

Proficiency in teaching strategies and techniques for all student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in related discipline, professional experience in the field related to the assigned course of instruction, experience with online and/or face-to-face instruction, and experience with Canvas.
