Kitchen Manager / Chef
Starting Gate Restaurant & Sports Bar – Los Alamitos, CA

We’re hiring a strong Kitchen Manager / Chef to help lead the opening and daily execution of a high-volume, full-service restaurant and sports bar built around quality food, strong hospitality, and disciplined operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can run a real kitchen — not just write specials or talk food. We want someone who can lead prep, line execution, sanitation, ordering, organization, training, and ticket flow while holding standards under pressure.

Formal culinary education is welcome, but equivalent high-level kitchen leadership experience is valued just as highly. We care more about judgment, consistency, work ethic, and the ability to lead a team than pedigree.

What you’ll do

Lead day-to-day kitchen operations in a fast-paced full-service environment
Build and maintain strong prep systems, pars, line readiness, and station organization
Train, coach, and hold kitchen staff accountable for standards, pace, cleanliness, and consistency
Oversee food quality, portioning, plate integrity, and ticket execution
Manage ordering, inventory, receiving, storage, and waste control
Enforce food safety, sanitation, and equipment care at a high level
Work closely with ownership and management to support opening readiness, staffing, and operational discipline
Help create a kitchen culture built on professionalism, urgency, respect, and follow-through

What we’re looking for

Proven experience leading a restaurant kitchen as a kitchen manager, sous chef, chef, or similar leadership role
Strong understanding of line flow, prep systems, scheduling, ordering, and cost awareness
Ability to lead from the front and stay composed during volume
High standards for cleanliness, food safety, organization, and execution
Experience training and developing cooks in a structured but practical way
Full-service restaurant experience strongly preferred
Sports bar, high-volume casual dining, grill, fryer, and scratch-prep experience is a plus
