Full Job Description

This is an on-call position.

Responsible for assisting aquatic staff with implementing and instruction of a high quality recreational program for individuals with or without disabilities through a variety of structured aquatic classes. Ensuring the safety of facility participants by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Some Responsibilities include but not limited to:

1. Conduct instruction of the various aquatic classes offered at the facility.

2. Evaluate swim levels and physical abilities of participants and adjust instruction appropriately.

3. Provide participant’s surveillance during pool hours of operation.

4. Recognize and respond effectively to first aid and/or emergencies.

5. Enforce and adhere to all facility rules, policies, regulations, and health and safety practices.

6. Inspect the facility daily according to the established schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.

7. Perform basic maintenance procedures.

8. Complete all record keeping procedures as requested by Aquatics Program Manager.

9. Assist internal program participants with entering and exiting the pool and aquatic area, dressing, undressing, and grooming as needed.

10. Participate in in-service training sessions as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or the equivalent (G.E.D.). Two (2-3) years of professional experience in a public pool setting in swim instruction and lifeguarding (aquatic exercise instruction a plus). Effective communication skills, written and oral.
Bilingual in English and Spanish. Able to work with a diverse population. Experience working with the developmentally disabled preferred but not required.

Certifications:

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training - Required
American Red Cross First Aid/CPR - Required
American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer - Preferred
American Red Cross Preventing Disease Transmission - Preferred
American Red Cross Automated External Defibrillation (AED) - Preferred
American Red Cross Title 22 - Preferred
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor - Preferred
Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program Instructor Certification (can be obtained during the first three months of employment) - Preferred
