Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Prior Authorization Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary Pharmacy and Medication services by obtaining prior authorizations from insurance companies. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding, and insurance verification processes. The Prior Authorization Specialist will work closely with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance representatives to facilitate timely approvals for treatments and procedures.

Responsibilities

Review and analyze patient medical records to determine the need for prior authorization based on clinical guidelines.
Submit authorization requests to insurance companies using appropriate coding systems, including ICD-10 and ICD-9.
Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to gather necessary information for authorization requests.
Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits to ensure compliance with policy requirements.
Maintain accurate records of all authorization requests and follow up on pending approvals.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations while handling sensitive patient information.
Collaborate with the billing department to resolve any issues related to denied authorizations or claims.
Stay updated on changes in insurance policies, coding practices, and healthcare regulations.

Experience

Proven experience in a medical office setting, preferably in prior authorization or related roles.
Strong knowledge of medical coding practices, including familiarity with ICD-10, ICD-9, and medical terminology.
Experience with insurance verification processes and understanding of various health insurance plans.
Proficient in using office software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with patients and healthcare professionals.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
