Reports to: Program Manager
Employment Type: Part-Time, Permanent (30 hours/week, potential for increase in hours)
Starting Rate: $21.00/hour
Location: In-person (required the 2nd Friday evening each month)
Requirement: Bilingual in Spanish

Summary

The Member Engagement Specialist (MES) serves as a welcoming and trusted point of contact for new and prospective Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County (ESNOC) members and their families. This position is responsible for conducting member intakes, primarily with Spanish-speaking individuals and families, while building authentic, supportive relationships that help members feel connected to the epilepsy community.

A key responsibility of this role is cultivating ongoing engagement by personally encouraging and supporting members to participate in programming and educational events.

The ideal candidate is warm, culturally responsive, highly personable, and genuinely passionate about helping individuals and families feel that they belong. Strong communication skills in both English and Spanish are essential, as the position will regularly engage with Spanish-speaking members and their families. Success in this role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, cultural responsiveness, and the ability to establish trusting relationships that foster meaningful member engagement and participation in ESNOC programs and services.

Responsibilities

· Provide bilingual support at monthly Program Night, events, and over the phone

· Conduct telephone intakes with new members in English and Spanish and connect them with appropriate ESNOC programs, services, and resources.

· Maintain accurate and confidential member information and records in the organization’s database.

· Build genuine, supportive relationships with members and families to help them feel connected to the ESNOC community.

· Demonstrate genuine enthusiasm for helping others and a strong desire to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and their families.

· Encourage members to participate in Program Night, support groups, educational programs, and other ESNOC activities.

· Translate program materials, invitations, outreach materials, and informational documents between English and Spanish.

· Coordinate, train, and oversee ESNOC volunteers, including creating schedules for in-office days and monthly Program Night

· Assist with planning and supporting monthly Program Night and other ESNOC programs

· Welcome attendees at events and provide bilingual support to members and families throughout the programming.

· Build positive relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and other partners to strengthen ESNOC’s community connections.

· Support ESNOC outreach efforts, health fairs, educational events, and other community activities.

· Provide administrative support and assist with general office tasks and special projects as needed.

· Represent ESNOC in a friendly, professional, and culturally sensitive manner when interacting with members, families, healthcare professionals, and community partners.

Qualifications

· Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)

· 1–2 years of experience with interpretation and translation (verbal and written)

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Experience working with diverse communities

· Experience with Special Needs populations

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database systems

· Experience using Canva or similar design tools preferred

· Strong organizational skills and reliable attendance

· Ability to exercise sound judgment and represent ESNOC professionally

· Fundraising or nonprofit experience is a plus

Education and Training

Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or degree in progress
Training provided in Seizure Recognition, First Aid, Epilepsy 101, and CPR

Physical Demands

· Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, as well as walk, sit and stand for extended periods of time

Background Check

· Employment contingent on passing a background check/live scan (covered by ESNOC)

Schedule

· 30 hours/week, Monday-Friday

· Some evenings and weekends required, including the 2nd Friday of each month (3:00-9:30 PM)

· Additional hours maybe available during special events

Pay: $21.00 per hour
