Job Overview
Join the Abounding Rivers Team as a Direct Care Staff Member!

Abounding Rivers is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Care Staff member for our Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP). As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in providing care and support to young women ages 12-17 within our licensed facility. This position is essential to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for our residents, helping them reach their personal and therapeutic goals.

Responsibilities

Assist residents with daily living activities, including personal care and hygiene.
Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and preferences.
Provide companionship and engage residents in meaningful activities.
Support residents in maintaining their independence while ensuring safety and comfort.
Implement individualized care plans while adhering to resident rights and dignity.
Monitor residents’ physical and emotional well-being, reporting any changes to the appropriate staff.
Maintain a clean and safe environment for all residents.
Assist with medication reminders as needed.
Participate in training sessions to enhance skills in first aid, memory care, and direct support techniques.

Requirements

Previous experience in a personal care home, nursing home, or similar setting is preferred.
Knowledge of first aid practices is a plus.
Strong understanding of resident rights and the importance of dignity in care.
Ability to prepare meals that meet specific dietary needs.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with residents.
Compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others.
Ability to perform cleaning duties as part of maintaining a safe living environment.
Flexibility to work various shifts as needed.

Direct Care Professional shall meet ONE of the following requirements prior to employment:

Have previously been employed as a staff or volunteer at a STRTP or Short-term residential therapeutic center for at least one year; OR

Foster and Kinship Care Education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth; OR

Have a valid Vocational Training Certificate, credential or documentation showing that the individual is a trade journey person who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth; OR

Have a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth; OR

Have completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, or Adolescent Development,

A valid Child Development Teaching Permit; OR

A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree; OR

Have relevant experience as determined by the Department of Social Services to meet any of the above requirements.

Working Conditions:

This position involves working in a youth residential facility and may require flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends. The role may involve physical activities such as lifting and transporting residents.
