About Mind & Midwifery

Mind & Midwifery is a start-up outpatient private practice dedicated exclusively to reproductive and perinatal mental health. Our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care to individuals throughout preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, pregnancy loss, infertility, and other reproductive life transitions.

Founded by a dual-certified Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), the practice was created to address the significant shortage of accessible reproductive psychiatric care in our community. We are committed to reducing barriers to care by accepting commercial insurance as well as Medi-Cal.

Position Summary

Mind & Midwifery is seeking a California-licensed, actively practicing psychiatrist to serve as a collaborating physician for a outpatient private practice.

The practice owner will provide outpatient psychiatric care as a PMHNP. The collaborating psychiatrist will serve as a clinical consultant, providing guidance and collaboration as outlined in the collaboration agreement and consistent with applicable California law.

The anticipated responsibilities include:

Initial review of practice policies, procedures, and prescribing protocols.
Brief monthly consultation by Zoom or telephone (approximately 5-30 minutes).
Quarterly review of a small sample of charts.
Availability for occasional consultation regarding complex clinical cases.

All contractual agreements and practice policies will be developed with the assistance of legal counsel experienced in California nurse practitioner private practice.

This is a flexible 1099 independent contractor position requiring minimal time commitment and administrative responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Provide consultation and clinical collaboration for an outpatient PMHNP practice.
Be available for periodic case discussion and clinical consultation.
Review selected patient charts on a quarterly basis.
Provide consultation regarding evidence-based treatment planning for complex psychiatric presentations.
Maintain an active, unrestricted California medical license and DEA registration.
Maintain an active clinical practice in California.

Qualifications

MD or DO with completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency.
Board Certified (Board Eligible applicants may also be considered).
Active, unrestricted California medical license.
Current DEA registration.
Currently practicing psychiatry in California.
Interest or experience in reproductive psychiatry, perinatal mental health, women's mental health, consultation-liaison psychiatry, or outpatient psychiatry preferred.
Excellent collaborative communication skills and commitment to patient-centered care.

Additional licensure in Illinois and/or Washington is a plus, as the practice plans to expand into those states in the future.

What We're Looking For

The ideal collaborator values respectful interdisciplinary care and enjoys partnering with an experienced clinician who brings years of obstetric experience together with specialized psychiatric training. Experience in reproductive psychiatry is welcomed but not required. A willingness to collaborate on complex perinatal cases and support the growth of a specialized community practice is most important.

Compensation

Monthly collaboration stipend.
Compensation will increase as the practice and patient panel grow.
