Full Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

The Family Service Counselor is accountable for serving client families by making at-need cemetery arrangements. A Family Service Counselor will additionally be accountable to prospecting to schedule appointments, presenting to client families in the location, field, families' homes, or public spaces, and educating them on how to secure their preneed arrangements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Generation (40% of Time)

· Consistently networks and builds relationships to generate leads for both funeral and cemetery pre-need arrangements using company tools, processes, and standards.

· Holds self-accountable for prospecting a minimum of 3-4 hours every day (if working 8 hours), such as serving at need families, approaching families face-to-face during events, door knocking, group seminars, or via phone through Call, Text, and Email.

· Generate referrals from families served and through networking activities.

· Networks and builds community and civic relationships.

· Explains and presents the Dignity Memorial® Personal Planning Guide to families served and referred families.

· Maintains and tracks daily activity levels to ensure productivity utilizing the company CRM

Build Relationships with Families (50% of Time)

· Create relationships through service excellence during at-need arrangement conference

· Establishes and maintains strong business relationships with families by connecting with the family, relating to them, resolving their concerns and needs, and committing to follow through

· Responds to client inquiries in a timely, respectful, sensitive and professional manner

· Supports families in time of grief with acts of kindness

· Connects with families through listening, honest communication and genuine concern

· Develops an understanding of each family’s unique needs and offers solutions that provide value to them

· Prepares for all appointments and performs all functions with professionalism and attention to detail

· Earns the right to gain referrals to offer protection to protect family members, and the family’s relatives and friends, by educating them on the benefits of pre-planning

Teamwork (10% of Time)

Represents a continuous link from services provided at need, through aftercare, to providing services to protect families in the future

Collaborates and teams with funeral directors, location managers, and other members of funeral home and or cemetery staff, to provide seamless, high-quality service throughout the at-need arrangement conference and services. This includes all administrative responsibilities for serving an at-need family.

Shares family feedback with rest of the SCI team

· Continue to improve individual skillset and knowledge to support overall location team growth.

Compensation

$50,000 to $100,000 targeted compensation (with higher earnings potential based on exceptional performance)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Experience

1-2 years of customer service or sales industry experience preferred

Education

· High school diploma

Licenses

· Current state/province-issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

· Must be willing to obtain a state-issued cemetery license, if applicable

· Must be willing to obtain an insurance license, if applicable

· In states/provinces where required, you must hold a valid Funeral Directors License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Intermediate computer and technology skills within a sales environment

· Ability to work well in a team, as well as independently

· Remains flexible with schedule to achieve results; often works nights and weekends.

· Good driving record

· Strong work ethic and high level of integrity

· Creative, outgoing, and energetic

· Professional comfort level presenting in front of peers, leadership, and the community

· Desire to help others

· Bilingual or multilingual skills is a plus

WORK CONDITIONS

Work Environment

· Work indoors and/or outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions

· Local and/or multiple location traveling may be required

· Comply with the Field dress code policy

Work Postures

· Frequent, continuous periods of time standing, up to 6 hours per day

· Sitting continuously for many hours per day, up to 6 hours per day

· Climbing stairs to access buildings frequently

Physical Demands

· Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required, including paperwork, calculators, computers, and phone usage

· Lifting, pushing, pulling up to 20 pounds

Work Hours

· Working beyond “standard” hours as the need arises
