Job Title: Licensing Approvals Manager

Location: Goodie Two Sleeves, LLC

Department: Licensing

Reports To: VP of Licensing

Position Summary

The Licensing Approvals Manager is responsible for leading and developing the Licensing Approvals team while overseeing the successful execution of all licensing approval activities across the company’s portfolio of licensed brands. This role ensures timely and accurate submission, tracking, and approval of licensed products from concept through production while maintaining compliance with licensor requirements and contractual obligations.

The Licensing Approvals Manager serves as the primary escalation point for licensing matters, provides leadership and coaching to Licensing Coordinators, establishes departmental processes and best practices, and partners closely with Sales, Creative, Production, Product Development, and external licensors to drive operational excellence. This position plays a critical role in protecting brand integrity, maintaining strong licensor relationships, and ensuring the successful commercialization of licensed products.

Own and continuously improve the overall Licensing Approvals function, ensuring the department can scale efficiently as new licenses, retailers, and product categories are added to the business.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Management

· Lead, mentor, develop, and manage the Licensing Approvals Coordinator team.

· Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

· Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, coaching sessions, performance reviews, and development planning for direct reports.

· Monitor team workloads and allocate resources to ensure timely completion of approvals and licensing initiatives.

· Provide guidance and support on complex approvals, escalated licensor issues, and compliance concerns.

· Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement.

Licensing Approvals Oversight

· Oversee the full licensing approval lifecycle from concept through TOP (Top of Production) samples across all managed licenses.

· Ensure submissions are accurate, complete, and aligned with licensor requirements and contractual obligations.

· Monitor approval timelines and proactively address bottlenecks to maintain production schedules.

· Review and approve team submissions prior to licensor submission when required.

· Manage escalations and negotiate resolutions with licensors and third-party representatives.

Licensor Relationship Management

· Build and maintain strong working relationships with licensors, agents, and brand representatives.

· Serve as a senior point of contact for licensing approval matters and escalated issues.

· Partner with licensors to ensure clear communication regarding brand standards, creative expectations, and approval processes.

· Represent Goodie Two Sleeves and Whatever! Makes You Happy as a trusted and professional licensing partner.

Process Improvement & Compliance

· Develop, implement, and continuously improve licensing approval workflows, procedures, and best practices.

· Ensure all licensing records, approvals, contracts, and supporting documentation are maintained accurately and consistently.

· Oversee management of asset libraries, licensor portals, and approval tracking systems.

· Ensure compliance with licensing agreements, intellectual property requirements, retailer restrictions, and brand guidelines.

· Partner with internal teams to identify and mitigate approval, compliance, and production risks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Collaborate closely with Sales, Creative, Product Development, Production, and Operations teams to support business objectives.

· Provide licensing guidance during product development and retailer presentations.

· Communicate approval status, risks, and timelines to internal stakeholders.

· Support license onboarding, category expansions, renewals, and strategic licensing initiatives.

Reporting & Strategic Support

· Develop and maintain departmental reporting on approval status, turnaround times, licensor performance, and team productivity.

· Analyze workflow trends and recommend operational improvements.

· Support audits, compliance reviews, and executive reporting requirements.

· Assist the VP of Licensing with strategic planning, team development, and departmental initiatives.

Qualifications

· 5+ years of licensing, brand management, approvals, product development, or related experience.

· Minimum 2 years of people management or team leadership experience preferred.

· Strong understanding of licensing agreements, approval processes, intellectual property, and brand compliance.

· Experience working with consumer products, apparel, accessories, or related licensed merchandise preferred.

· Exceptional organizational, project management, and communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, licensing portals, and project management systems.

· Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.

Training, Development & Department Leadership

Develop, document, and maintain departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training materials, and best practices for licensing approvals and compliance.
Lead onboarding and training of new Licensing Coordinators and provide ongoing coaching to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to company and licensor requirements.
Establish clear performance expectations, accountability measures, and development plans for team members.
Identify skill gaps and implement training initiatives to improve team efficiency, licensor knowledge, communication, and overall performance.
Create and maintain license-specific training resources, including approval guidelines, retailer restrictions, brand standards, and "Do's & Don'ts" documentation.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance departmental productivity, approval turnaround times, and service levels to internal stakeholders.
Partner with the VP of Licensing to assess organizational needs, recommend staffing requirements, and support succession planning within the department.
Promote a culture of collaboration, ownership, professional growth, and operational excellence across the Licensing team.
Serve as the department's subject matter expert on licensing approval processes and provide guidance to internal teams on best practices and compliance requirements.
Lead regular team meetings to review workloads, priorities, process updates, licensor feedback, and departmental objectives.

Pay: $115,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
