Full Job Description

DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Director ECE, the Special Education Teacher will provide ongoing support to the Drew CDC Early Childhood STEAM Education Centers to support the educational. cognitive, psycho-social, and emotional-behavioral needs of students with or without identified special needs. This position is required to engage with stakeholders within local education agencies, including regional centers to ensure the special educational needs of the students Drew CDC serves is performed through coordinated efforts. The Special Education Teacher will also provide behavioral support plans, strategies and techniques through collaborative efforts with teachers, families and relevant external agencies. This position will be assigned a central location but will be required to travel and provide service(s) to all six (6) of the Drew CDC early education childcare centers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform the business of Drew CDC Child Care Centers in accordance with Drew CDC’s Employee Handbook, Title 5, Education Code: Section 8350, Preventive Health and Safety Regulations, CLASS, NAEYC Standards, and Title 22 Regulations.

2. Ensures programs comply with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA); ensures each applicable student is provided with Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) that is properly modified for his/her individual needs.

3. Develops, completes, and maintains all paperwork mandated by local, state, and federal guidelines, laws, and regulations.

4. Maintains knowledge of special education teaching methods, research, and best practices through professional development and study.

5. Establishes and enforces classroom management structure and rules that ensure the academic engagement and the physical and mental safety of all students.

6. Identify, through assessment, children eligible to receive special education services

7. Participate as a member of a team to identify the needs and specific goals and objectives of each child's individual education plan

8. Develops an integrated plan for the education of each child by collaborating with classroom teachers, parents, psychologists, social workers, and other medical and school staff.

9. Conduct informal evaluations and modify each student's curriculum

10. Collaborates regularly with other staff and engages in data-based decision making as well as ongoing review of documentation and progress monitoring to support the management of challenging behaviors

11. Consult and articulate with staff and parents via meetings and phone, regarding the needs of students

12. Utilize resources both within and outside the school district to facilitate student progress in both educational and social development

13. Provide parents with appropriate instructional and behavior strategies

14. Maintain knowledge of current regulations pertaining to special education and continue independent professional growth

15. Maintain records, files and reports as required by federal, state, and district regulations

16. Maintain confidentiality of all written and oral information

17. Communicate with physicians, private schools, and community organizations regarding special education services

18. Insure health and safety of children

19. Assist parents to coordinate utilization of appropriate community services

20. Works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to provide individualized (1:1) and small group instruction to support students in meeting behavioral goals and objectives identified by the problem-solving team (e.g., teachers, families, Regional Center partners).

21. Works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate students’ developmental levels, skill acquisition, and progress toward IEP goals and integration with other developmental assessments (e.g., DRDP).

22. Assists in providing and/or developing training for program staff.

23. Adheres to the Drew CDC, ECE policies and procedures.

24. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

· Theories and principles of Early Childhood Education growth and development

· Applied Behavioral Analysis (“ABA”) implementation

· Community Care Licensing requirements

· Commission on Teacher Credentialing to maintain permit/license, if applicable

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:

· Early Childhood Special Education Specialist Credential (ECSE), Level II (Clear) credential

· Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, or related field required, from an accredited institution, and

· Two (2) or more year’s experience in behavioral therapy programs within ECE programs

· Must possess a valid Class C Driver’s License

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. BCBA certification

2. Master’s degree in education psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, or related field required.

3. Bilingual and Biliterate.

4. Related specialized training(s).
