G3 Electric is a growing Southern California C-10 electrical contractor serving healthcare, commercial, industrial, institutional, education, public works, and other complex construction environments. Our leadership team brings more than 30 years of electrical-construction experience and a strong commitment to accurate pricing, integrity, and professional execution.
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Construction Estimator who can independently manage opportunities from bid invitation through takeoff, pricing, proposal, follow-up, and project handoff. This is a primarily remote, part-time role for a dependable estimator who can help identify the right projects, build GC relationships, prepare complete and profitable bids, and attend occasional Southern California job walks and pre-bid meetings.
Responsibilities
- Manage bid opportunities: Monitor public and private bid boards, agency portals, and direct GC invitations; maintain the bid calendar, addenda, deadlines, and go/no-go recommendations.
- Develop GC relationships and campaigns: Contact general contractors, owners, and facility representatives to request bid invitations, identify upcoming work, and follow up on targeted estimating campaigns.
- Prepare complete electrical estimates: Review plans, specifications, addenda, RFIs, schedules, and early-stage information; perform takeoffs; and develop labor, material, equipment, rental, permit, tax, subcontractor, overhead, and profit pricing
- Build bids and proposals: Prepare hard-bid, negotiated, design-build, budget, time-and-material, service, and change-order estimates with clear scopes, inclusions, exclusions, qualifications, alternates, and value-engineering options.
- Coordinate market pricing: Solicit and level supplier and subcontractor quotations, confirm scope coverage, resolve pricing gaps, and stay current with electrical material, equipment, and labor costs.
- Identify risk before bid day: Recognize scope holes, constructability concerns, code issues, shutdowns, phasing, long-lead items, schedule impacts, and other budget or execution risks before submission.
- Attend and communicate: Participate in job walks, pre-bid meetings, and scope reviews; prepare RFIs and clarification questions; and coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Submit, follow up, and turn over: Complete bids on time, support negotiations, track results, follow up with GCs, and provide organized estimate handoffs for awarded projects. Maintain estimating databases, cost history, templates, and lessons learned.
Required qualifications
- Five or more years of electrical construction estimating experience.
- Ability to independently perform accurate takeoffs and build complete estimates from drawings, specifications, addenda, and early-stage project information.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, materials, labor productivity, construction methods, applicable codes, and field installation requirements.
- Ability to read electrical plans, one-lines, schedules, details, specifications, architectural drawings, and related construction documents.
- Ability to identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, budget risks, clarification needs, and commercial exposure before bid submission.
- Experience preparing hard bids, negotiated proposals, budgets, change orders, and time-and-material pricing.
- Strong communication, attention to detail, time management, and ability to manage multiple deadlines and attend occasional Southern California job walks.
Preferred qualifications
- Healthcare construction experience and familiarity with HCAI/OSHPD requirements and occupied medical environments.
- Experience with commercial, institutional, industrial, education, public works, or prevailing-wage electrical projects.
- Proficiency with Accubid/LiveCount, PlanSwift, McCormick, ConEst, Bluebeam Revu, On-Screen Takeoff, STACK, or a comparable estimating platform.
- Experience with BuildingConnected, PlanHub, ConstructConnect/iSqFt, The Blue Book, Procore, public agency portals, Microsoft Excel, and PDF-document management.
Remote work requirements
- Reliable computer, high-speed internet service, telephone access, a professional remote workspace, and consistent availability during agreed Southern California business hours.
- An established estimating workflow and professional estimating-software experience are strongly preferred. Required company software, licensing, compatibility, and equipment arrangements will be addressed during the offer process.
Compensation and signing bonus
Hourly pay: $45.00-$65.00 per hour, based on verified experience, technical ability, software proficiency, project background, independence, and the volume and complexity of work the candidate can successfully manage.
Signing bonus opportunity: $5,000-$15,000. The target bonus amount will depend on the candidate’s verified electrical estimating experience, demonstrated work quality, project capabilities, production capacity, and expected workload responsibility.
Introductory period and bonus term: The position includes a 90-day introductory performance period. Bonus eligibility is confirmed after successful completion of the introductory period and is paid according to a written six-month bonus schedule. Continued employment and satisfactory performance are required at each scheduled payment date. The exact amount and payment milestones will be included in the written offer and bonus plan.
Schedule and location
- Part-time, approximately 24-40 hours per week, depending on active bid volume, deadlines, and agreed workload
- Primarily remote within Southern California, with occasional local travel for job walks, pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and company coordination.
- Work hours may be flexible, but all bid deadlines, scheduled meetings, and communication expectations must be met.
