Full Job Description

Logistics Manager

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Receive requests from customers; identify and negotiate with suppliers to fulfill orders.

Review and approve incoming customer purchase orders and contracts.

Issue purchase orders to suppliers in support of customer orders.

Maintain customer records by keeping account information current and accurate.

Troubleshoot and resolve customer concerns and issues in a timely manner.

Track and document vendor performance, pricing, and delivery reliability.

Expedite and invoice orders as they ship.

Present company capabilities to new and existing customers to earn and maintain business.

Oversee shipping and receiving operations, including unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders, and coordinating freight services.

Read customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, distributed, or shipped.

Direct the movement of materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or other designated areas per established procedures.

Ensure materials and items are sorted and placed on racks, shelves, or in bins according to established internal procedures.

Ensure the warehouse remains accessible, organized, and safe for staff, salespeople, and customer traffic.

Oversee the assembly of customer orders from stock, including staging on pallets/shelves or relocating orders to a holding area for shipment.

Ensure materials are properly marked with identifying information using approved methods.

Record amounts of materials or items received and/or shipped in the inventory management system

Oversee and participate in physical inventory counts.

Ensure items are accurately weighed and counted for distribution to customers, confirming conformance to company standards.

Identify and segregate non-conforming materials and notify inside sales of any material discrepancies.

Maintain warehouse and work area organization and orderliness at all times.

Oversee preparation of parcels for mailing and shipment.

Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Skills & Qualifications:

Basic computer knowledge required; many functions of this job require familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Excellent attention to detail, typing accuracy, dependability, strong phone presence, negotiation skills, and self-motivation are critical.

Must wear proper safety equipment when applicable.

Able to obtain and maintain OSHA forklift certification.

Willingness to take personal responsibility and leadership on projects.

Ability to execute order management within an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Ability to manage multiple simultaneous demands, prioritize effectively, and meet both customer and internal deadlines.

WORK CONDITIONS

Work is performed primarily in a warehouse/distribution environment, with regular exposure to moving mechanical equipment, forklift and truck traffic, and varying temperatures.

Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions while overseeing loading, unloading, and shipping activities.

Noise levels in the work environment are usually moderate to loud, consistent with a typical warehouse setting.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas of the warehouse.

May require travel between multiple company sites as needed.

Standard business hours apply, with occasional additional hours required to meet shipping deadlines or customer needs.

The Logistics Manager is responsible for the intake, storage, and distribution of materials, tools, equipment, and products within the warehouse across multiple VSS Logistics sites. This role also supports business development by maintaining strong customer relationships through phone and web contact, following up on inbound inquiries, qualifying customer needs, and selling appropriate products and services, while ensuring that all shipments are tracked and delivered on time.
