Overview
The Underwriter 1 position is responsible for working with their Team Leader, Underwriters 2-4, Data Consultants, Account Managers, Producers, and Clients in preparing requests for proposals, obtaining, and analyzing carrier quotes, inputting, and analyzing data from various automation systems, and maintaining a small book of business. It also works collaboratively with the underwriting and data teams to perform financial and data analysis of a client’s healthcare plans.
This role is primarily remote. However, for candidates who reside within a reasonable commuting distance of our Louisville, KY office, a hybrid work arrangement would be preferred.
How you'll make an impact

Execute competitive bidding of all employee benefits coverage lines.

Prepare PowerPoints outlining financial and contractual analysis according to company policy.

Review vendor proposals for accuracy.

Assist Underwriters 2-4 and Data Consultants to evaluate, determine, and recommend alternative coverages, pricing, options, and plan design changes based on analysis of available plan elements and on client/prospect goals.

Produce deliverables timely, accurately, and in compliance with company standards.

Work jointly with Underwriters 2-4 to forecast and develop projections.
- Maintain positive relationships with vendor representatives.

Remain abreast of the health insurance environment and constantly changing insurance legislation.

Respond to routine and non-routine correspondence.

Work independently and within the team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects.

Represent Gallagher positively and professionally with both internal and external Clients.

Maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
About You
Required:
-
Bachelor's degree and 0-3 years related experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications – excel proficiency is a must.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and Microsoft Office.
Preferred:
-
Must obtain Accident & Health License within the first 6 months of employment, if not already licensed.
- Strong employee benefits knowledge and/or math, economics, and finance background .

Strong PC skills with the aptitude to learn new systems.
