Brandon Bird Utilities Construction is seeking a motivated individual to join our natural gas PRP utility crews in Lubbock, Texas and surrounding West Texas communities. This position is ideal for someone with strong construction, excavation, or heavy equipment operation experience who is eager to continue developing their skills and build a long term career in the utility industry.
This role primarily supports Pipeline Replacement Program (PRP) projects involving natural gas distribution infrastructure replacement, maintenance, and system improvement work that helps safely serve homes and businesses across our communities. This position places a strong emphasis on operating and supporting underground utility construction equipment in active job site environments.
Position Overview
Our Utility Equipment Operators assist with natural gas pipeline installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair activities while operating equipment used in underground utility construction. This position involves physical outdoor work operating and supporting excavation and utility equipment while working alongside experienced crew members and supervisors.
This role is a strong opportunity for individuals experienced in construction equipment operation who are interested in building long term careers in utility construction and underground infrastructure work.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate or assist with skid steers, mini excavators, backhoes, vacuum excavation trailers, and other utility construction equipment as needed
- Assist with natural gas pipeline replacement and infrastructure improvement projects
- Perform excavation, pipe installation, backfill, and restoration activities
- Support leak investigation and repair work on natural gas distribution systems as needed
- Safely transport and pull equipment trailers to and from job sites
- Use hand tools and assist crew members with equipment and materials on job sites
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Follow all company safety procedures and job site safety standards
- Work closely with crew members and supervisors to complete daily tasks
- Assist with inspections, documentation, and compliance activities as required
- Participate in company provided training and development opportunities
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license required
- Must meet company driving and vehicle insurance requirements, including a clean driving record
- Must be able to safely pull and back trailers
- Construction, excavation, and equipment operation experience required
- Experience operating skid steers, excavators, backhoes, vacuum excavation equipment, trailers, or similar construction equipment strongly preferred
- Must reside in Lubbock, Texas or be willing to relocate to Lubbock at the applicant's own expense
- Utility experience, particularly polyfusion, is a plus
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job site conditions
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and commitment to safety and quality
Compensation and Benefits
- Base Pay: $18 to $20 per hour depending on experience
- Traveling Per Diem: Per diem may be provided for overnight travel to other West Texas locations when applicable
