Full Job Description

Texas Together is the official statewide coordinated campaign powered by the Texas Democratic Party, Texas Majority PAC, HDCC, and Beto O’Rourke’s Powered by People.

We are dedicated to flipping Texas by building teams of staff and volunteers in Texas who work year-round to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. We invest in volunteer voter engagement and turnout programs to bring statewide organizing work to the scale required to win.

Location Requirement: This is a field-based position. Candidates should be based in or near one of the following regions: Bexar, Harris, Williamson, Hidalgo, Cameron, Dallas, Tarrant, or El Paso County. Applicants should be able to reliably travel throughout their assigned region and attend in-person events as needed.

Summary of Position:

Texas Together is seeking field organizers to join our team. This role will be a key part of our organizing program, working to execute a successful volunteer voter contact and turnout program. The organizer will recruit and train volunteers to carry out voter contact and help our team reach enough voters to impact future elections.

Although this role will initially be hybrid, working remotely and in-person with volunteers, it will eventually transition to a full-time field organizer position, so the majority of the work will be direct voter contact and working with volunteers. The day-to-day work in this role will include making phone calls to volunteers, leading voter contact training, and knocking on doors.

The ideal candidate does not need to have any previous organizing experience but should have strong time management skills, an eagerness to learn, and a deep commitment to turning Texas Blue. Organizers will spend a lot of time talking to strangers and volunteers, some of whom will not be easy to work with. You have to maintain a positive and professional attitude, even when you’re tired and frustrated.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct voter contact, including block walking, phone banking, and texting voters
Recruitment of volunteers over the phone
Train volunteers, online and in-person, to knock on doors, make calls, write letters, etc.
Develop committed volunteers into leaders, escalating them over time to take on more responsibility
Set up organizing tools, like Spoke and auto-dialers, for voter contact
Draft training materials for volunteers and partner organizations

Qualifications:

Proficiency in Google Suite tools
Must be located in one of the listed counties
Ability to hold oneself accountable with minimal management and deliver projects on strict deadlines
Willing to work on projects individually and as a member of a team of people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives
Must have a desire to learn about organizing and Texas politics, and be flexible and willing to try new things to solve problems
Must have access to a vehicle or other reliable transportation
Willingness to work during evenings and weekends as needed

Employment Commitment:

This is a full-time position that requires flexibility and responsiveness. As such, employees are expected to commit exclusively to this role and not hold additional jobs while employed with Texas Together.
