Organization Overview

CLOTH is a multi-faceted community development and service organization dedicated to supporting and empowering the economically disadvantaged residents of Inwood, and Washington Heights. Our mission is to provide the knowledge, resources, and opportunities our residents need to empower themselves to make positive change in their lives and their community. Our work encompasses affordable housing, advocacy, workforce development, education, health and economic development. Since our inception in 1952, CLOTH, has grown from an all-volunteer agency focused on the youth of Washington Heights to an influential community development corporation. CLOTH offers an array of services including after school programs, an award-winning middle and high school, food pantry, health programs, technology and workforce development center and social services.

Position Overview

The Community League of the Heights, Inc. (CLOTH) is seeking an experienced bookkeeper who is familiar with nonprofit accounting practices. The ideal candidate is someone who is detail oriented, responsible, has good communication skills and is able to adapt to the changing priorities of an active office. Responsibilities include making accounting entries, creating budgets and reports. The desired individual will have advanced experience with QuickBooks in a nonprofit setting and a high level of professionalism.

Responsibilities

Manage all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting processes including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable and journal entries.
Prepare budgets.
Process and pay invoices.
Record deposits.
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports i.e., budget vs actual.
Collect and maintain W-9 reports for all vendors.
Prepare and send tax documents as appropriate, i.e.,1099s and W-2s.
Perform administrative accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including but not limited to printing and mailing of checks.
Maintain and keep updated external portals related to grant funds receive by NYC and NYS.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Associate degree in accounting and 3 years of experience.
Must be able to read a balance sheet and cashflow statement.
Have a strong understanding of numbers.
Able to anticipate impact of workload/issues proactively and assertively on team deadlines.
Advanced QuickBooks and Excel skills
Non- Profit accounting experience is a plus.
Experienced with data entry into accounting software and able to data enter electronic and cash transactions.
Familiar with accessing bank statement information electronically and running reports.
Ability to create reports from accounting software for Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director’s review and analysis.
