Job Title: Director of Pharmacy Services

PURPOSE:
The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible for the overall management, compliance, clinical oversight, and operational performance of Community Access Network's pharmacy program. This role serves as the primary on-site pharmacist and leader of the pharmacy team, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and patient-centered pharmacy services in alignment with HRSA, 340B, federal, and state regulations. The Director of Pharmacy serves as the Pharmacist-in-Charge. The Director supervises other pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers and collaborates closely with providers, nursing staff, operations and finance. In addition to dispensing and operational responsibilities, the Director will provide clinical pharmacy services to optimize medication therapy outcomes and support integrated care within Community Access Network.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regulatory and Compliance Oversight
- Serve as the legally designated Pharmacist-in-Charge per state Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Ensure the practice of pharmacy is in overall compliance with laws and regulations, including:
- State Board of Pharmacy regulations
- DEA requirements
- HRSA/FQHC requirements
- 340B Drug Pricing Program regulations
- CMS and other applicable federal/state regulations.
- Ensure audit readiness for HRSA, 340B, Board of Pharmacy, and payer audits.
- Provide safeguards against diversion of drugs and of all controlled substances.
- Ensure all security measures are in compliance and operational.
- Ensure the annual inventory of all drugs in Schedules II–V, including expired drugs, is performed.
- Ensure monthly compliance with the perpetual inventory requirement for Schedule II drugs (Regulation 18VAC110‑20‑240).
- Notify the Board of any theft or unusual losses of drugs as soon as discovered.
- Maintain pharmacy licensure, controlled substance registrations, and required documentation.
- Maintain records as specified by the Drug Control Act.
- Ensure that CAN Pharmacy staff abide by the standards of accreditation in Mail Order Pharmacy and Specialty Pharmacy.
Clinical And Dispensing Services
- Provide professional pharmacy services as appropriate.
- Perform necessary compounding using appropriate supplies, equipment, and ingredients.
- Maintain and use up‑to‑date patient drug profiles.
- Provide patient medication counseling and education using labels, accessory labels, and personal contact.
- In collaboration with the CMO, maintain an up‑to‑date formulary and use it to dispense the proper generic or brand‑name drug as prescribed.
- Provide immunizations in accordance with state law.
- Assist with population health initiatives and quality metric improvement (UDS measures, HEDIS measures).
- Educate providers and clinical staff regarding formulary, medication updates, and evidence-based therapy.
- Support patient assistance programs and medical access initiatives.
340B Program Oversight
- Oversee and maintain compliance with the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
- Control all pharmacy drug stocks and supplies and maintains inventory.
- Administer, in collaboration with CAN’s pharmacy consultants, pharmacy audit procedures.
- Maintain records and inventory practices that support compliance with 340B program requirements.
Operational Management
- Develop, implement, and update pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Oversee daily pharmacy workflow and ensure efficient operations.
- Supervise all pharmacy activities as specified by the Drug Control Act.
- Assist in development of appropriate clinical pharmacy goals and objectives.
- Maintain day‑to‑day pharmacy records as specified by the CMO.
- Coordinate staffing and scheduling to support CAN’s clinical services.
Supervision And Leadership
- Directly supervise pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers.
- Verify that every pharmacist holds a current license to practice pharmacy.
- Verify that every pharmacy technician holds a current registration or has documentation of enrollment in a Board‑approved training program (not more than 9 months).
- Provide pharmacy technician Board‑approved training program.
- Provide staff training and competence validation.
- Conduct performance evaluations.

- Supervises pharmacy activities as required under the Drug Control Act.
Financial And Administrative
- Provide the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with information regarding pharmacy financial performance, compliance and growth.
- Monitor pharmacy revenue, expenses, inventory costs, and reimbursement trends,
- Assist the CFO in budget development and financial forecasting.
- Support third-party billing optimization and revenue cycle coordination.
- Maintain records as required for administrative and regulatory purposes.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
· Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy School with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD.
· Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, required.
· Active DEA registration, required.
· 3-5 years’ experience as a pharmacist, required.
· Experience in FQHC and 340B pharmacy operations preferred.
· Supervisory experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Strong clinical judgment and evidence-based practice skills.
· Strong understanding of 340B compliance requirements.
· Ability to practice independently while leading a team.
· A desire to interact with the professional staff in promoting a clinical pharmacy program.

Pay: $140,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
