Full Job Description

Clinical Therapist (Substance Use & Group Therapy Focus) – 1099 Contractor

Michigan Minds is a growing behavioral health organization focused on high-quality, Medicaid-based mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) services. We are seeking a Licensed Clinical Therapist who is experienced in group therapy facilitation and Medicaid billing environments.

This role is ideal for a clinician who thrives in a structured, high-impact setting and understands how to maximize client outcomes through group programming while maintaining strong documentation and compliance standards.

Position Overview

The Clinical Therapist will lead and provide group-based treatment services, with a strong emphasis on Medicaid-compliant documentation, productivity, and program development.

You will play a key role in building and scaling group therapy services across mental health and SUD populations.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate multiple weekly group therapy sessions (SUD, relapse prevention, CBT, life skills, psychoeducation)
Provide individual therapy as needed to support treatment plans
Develop and implement structured group therapy curricula aligned with Medicaid standards
Ensure timely, accurate, and audit-ready documentation (progress notes, treatment plans, group notes)
Maintain productivity aligned with Medicaid billing expectations
Serve in a Clinical Director capacity, supporting program growth and compliance
Assist with credentialing, audits, and quality assurance processes
Collaborate with case managers, referral partners, and community agencies
(If applicable) Provide clinical supervision to LL providers

Qualifications

Active Michigan license (LMSW, LPC, LP, or equivalent)
Strong background in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment
Proven experience facilitating group therapy (REQUIRED)
Experience working in a Medicaid billing environment strongly preferred
Knowledge of MDHHS/CHAMPS documentation standards
Eligible and willing to complete insurance credentialing
Strong organizational and documentation skills

Compensation & Productivity Structure

1099 Independent Contractor role
Competitive compensation (per group / per session / % of collections)
Opportunity for higher earnings based on group volume and attendance
Consistent referral stream to support full schedules
Paid after successful credentialing with Medicaid/insurance panels
Must be actively providing services at time of credentialing approval
